Brand identity guidelines. A walk through guide of a brand identity / logo guidelines document.

233 ratings | 6324 views
I've had many requests to do a video where I run through an example of a brand identity guidelines document. So, I am happy to oblige :) Brand identity or logo guidelines as they can often be referred to; are a useful way of quickly accessing technical details about your logo such as colour codes and font types. They are also a way of making sure that your logo is always presented in the way that it is intended, no matter who is using it. Stay Creative! Very useful. Can you tell use more about your start as a graphic designer. How you sell your artwork?! Which vessels u recommend to use for that?
Pixels Ink (2 months ago)
Hi Marwa, I've been thinking about doing a video talking about my design career journey. Thank you for the nudge on that. I've added it to my calendar.

Thanks for this. It's very useful! Do you choose the primary font from free fonts so there are no further problems with licenses?

Keep an eye out for bundle deals from various design websites like Envato and Creative Market. They do offers where you can get thousands of dollars worth of fonts for under $30. You can also often find cheaper variants of fonts that look similar to more expensive fonts. I've built up my font library over 20 years. You just need to be selective in what you buy at first. This top 10 list from Jacob Cass is a good start: https://justcreative.com/2018/04/09/best-professional-fonts-clean-minimal-logo-design/

I always discuss typography and fonts with my clients before the project starts. I explain the benefits and negatives to both free and paid fonts. This lets the client know that should we decide on a commercial font, they will need to invest in that font. Sometimes though, I use a commercial font for the logo, and then specify a free Google font that pairs well with the logo as the secondary text font. As I will be providing the logo file as a graphic, the client would not need to buy a license for it. They would only need to buy a license if they intended to use the font for other things. You as the designer will still need to buy a license for the font though. I always factor in the purchase of fonts in my project fees.

I would like to buy a few font licenses for use, but they are too expensive. For example, Helvetica Basic Pack costs 150$! Did you buy licenses for your favorite fonts or is there some other way to try fonts in your designs before purchasing them?

Col, Great video! Super clear and to the point. Now if we could only get all designers to follow the guidelines! LOL. Thumbs up.
