♡ DIY Infinity Scarf // Easy Knit Pattern for Beginners | SLife ♡

2695 ratings | 262562 views
Hello all knitters and subbies! Today I have a special video for you guys! By special, I mean 9-hour editing special haha but no worries, it's not a hard DIY project! It just takes a lot of time but made with a lot of love! I'm teaching you how to make your own INFINITY SCARF in this step-by-step tutorial!!!!! Isn't that awesome?! The reason why this is a great DIY craft is because it is very inexpensive and cheap in pricing compared to you going out and buying an infinity scarf. Also, it will last longer since it is handmade instead of machine made! So it's a win win situation as long as you manage your time well! What I did was on my free day, I set up Netflix on my laptop and watched Criminal Minds while knitting hehe! If all you are going to do is binge watch, then might as well knit a scarf while you are at it! Am I right or am I right? haha The con about being a YouTuber is when you pour your heart into editing a video for your channel and peeps to reedit the video all over again due to some technical difficulty! haha but don't worry! It is all worth it in the long run :) Alright, enough writing for me! I can't wait to see your DIY infinity scarfs! Make sure to use the hashtag #SLifeDIYs on social media for me to see your versions! I'll talk to you very soon! Good luck and bye bye! ~SLife ♡ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Materials Info: - All materials are purchased from Walmart but you can get them at your local craft and art stores as well! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stay Updated with Me! Is it normal that my scarf gets larger and larger 😓 what should i do?
Susan Yong (1 year ago)
Hi Shan Yang, just came across your video . Watched it for like 10 times trying to learn this lovely scarf. Can i suggest you add one more row in your video (for future). After the casting, one row of knitting , your 2 knit, 2 roll over.. I cant figure out the next row. But still working based on instinct. Love your video never the less.
Enchanted Crystal (1 year ago)
So you knit 2, purl 2 together? It would be helpful to know what exactly you're doing, just cause I'm a beginner and its helpful.
wilis rahayu (1 year ago)
it is a nice vid :)) I am a beginner, and I look for some tutorials that seem easy to be applied. i wanna ask you some questions, how long the needle you use? is it about 10 mm? and what kind of yarn do you use? :))) thnks :)))
nana tayum (1 year ago)
That pop sound is so disturbing but thanks for the video.
Merci Liang (1 year ago)
This video was amazing!!! The instructions were so clear and I was able to understand everything. I am definitely going to make this scarf. But, I have a few questions. Just to be clear, you can cast on as many stitches as you like as long as it is a multiple of four, right? And second, is it okay if you make loose stitches? Thank you so much for the clear tutorial!
Shan Yang (1 year ago)
Merci Liang no problem! I'm glad you enjoyed it! And yes and yes to both :)
Donna Dotts (1 year ago)
Love the video! I'm not gonna mention the pop-up sound because everyone did lol. Can't wait to make it!

Hi, is there a name for the pattern? and do you keep doing the knit knit, 2 twirls and a purl pattern for every row or is it alternate 1st row and 2nd row pattern? Thanks!
Clara Lopez (2 years ago)
Very nice video! Once you are done with the first 2 rows and you are doing the lace stitch when you pull over so it goes to the next needle, do you bring the two swirls you made in the previous row?
semsem moi (2 years ago)
nomber of stitches some times decreases or increases i did not understand wher the problem is

StoptheMotion Films (2 years ago)
Hi, love the video. Just wondering what needle size you were using?
helio (2 years ago)
somehow got 10 more stitches after finishing that second row. is that correct? I don't think so... when you start on the next row after that, there's two loops together instead of one, so do you loop through them both or just one when you begin?
진수연celeste (2 years ago)
+nymphyno after the second row which u need to wrap 2 extra srands of yarn on the needle, does every following rows repeat the same step?
helio (2 years ago)
oh. oh oh. i see it now xP
Sierra Yoo (2 years ago)
Hey!! LOVE your video!!❤ I just have one question, when your switching your needles how do we know to do the single stitch or double stitch??
Sadiyah Archibald (2 years ago)
How do you know when switching needles when to single wrap or double wrap your string?
Iriannah z (2 years ago)
amanda green (2 years ago)
Love the tutorial! Only suggestion would be to cut those pop sounds out, quite harsh with headphones on :(
amanda green aàw
psychicriver (2 years ago)
Lovely and easy pattern to follow for a beginner like me. However, any suggestions on how to fix an error other than pulling the whole thing out? I had to completely start over 3 times :( so now I've threaded a string through the needle loops every few rows so that if I have to pull out the yarn at least it will only (hopefully) get pulled out to that point.
Lisa Wijsen (2 years ago)
great video! what size needles do you use?
Aditi Jaiswal (2 years ago)
thank you so much for this tutorial.. it really helped me alot :)
Charlotte McCoy (2 years ago)

Shan, this is beautiful! You are such a cool young girl! It is so nice to see you talking and knitting and using your hands to make beautiful projects and to teach them! You are a great example for the young people! God bless you!
Shan Yang (2 years ago)
Daniela Ciccopiedi that is beyond sweet of you! Thank you so much for your kind words :)
Andrea Cline (2 years ago)
This is an old video I know, but I thought I would point something out. You are English style knitting (you hold the working yarn in your right hand), if you continental stitch like I do (where you hold the working yarn in your left hand) then you only want to wrap once on the purl stitch otherwise your going to end up with an extra stitch. Took my a few tries to figure out how come I kept ending up with 5 stitches instead of four.
Shan Yang (2 years ago)
wiccanangel12 thank you for your input :) I hope my viewers find your comment helpful!
Green Gem (2 years ago)
How long is your scarf before you sewed it? Plz answer, I'm trying to knit this for my mom!

How many yards is the ball of yarn?
Shan Yang (2 years ago)
Sina B I don't recall too well but I bought the yarn from Walmart if that helps at all
Emily Austin (3 years ago)
I'm literally gonna make this today I LOVE IT
Shan Yang (2 years ago)
Emily Austin thank you! How did it turn out?
Kari K (3 years ago)
Thank you so much for this video. I'm a beginner and this is my second project and my scarf is coming together beautifully. The pattern you used is a knit 2, wrap twice, purl 2 together and it makes a lovely lace patterned scarf. I wanted my scarf to be a bit thicker so I casted on 40 stiches instead of 20. Thank you again and keep knitting!
gummy bear lyrics (3 years ago)

I don't know what I am doing wrong but my scarf is a hot mess lol. I started with 20 cast ons and now on row 5 I have 27? Please help me
Shan Yang (2 years ago)
Schnelle Marie Beauty you have to make sure you don't add on more stitches when you purl (wrap the yarn after every 2 stiches)
Jess Q (3 years ago)

livvy divvy (3 years ago)
love this diy, I'm trying it for myself and love the way it looks. I'm actually a regular knitter, and this is a really ccol pattern that's not basic, but easy. one thing is, I'm doing this on dpns and the stitches keep falling off when I leave them. This pattern is very unique, and it's almost impossible to repair your lost stitches with this. but overall, if you use pointed needles and the right yarn, it's a really cute, fun and easy project
Shan Yang (2 years ago)
livvy divvy I hoped you figured it out :) and I'm glad you watched this video too
sallyburger (3 years ago)
Could you post a pattern sometime?
Sandra S. (3 years ago)
thanx god! i learnt how to knit FINALLY! Thaaaank youuuu! you are amazing!
Shan Yang (2 years ago)
Serena Nocte you're amazing for watching and enjoying this video :)
Cathryn Goneh (3 years ago)
Hi love this video but I'm a beginner so how many cast on did you do and how many rows did you knit! I did 20 cast ons but is looking very thin. Is that normal?
Cathryn Goneh (3 years ago)
Thank You for the help!!! :)
Dorothy C. (3 years ago)
She did 20 cast ons as well but I think yours might be looking thin because of the thickness of your yarn. If you have a thinner yarn and want a thicker scarf, maybe try doing more cast ons so that the scarf is wider and when it bunches it, it won't be so thin. Hope this helps because when I did 20 cast ons, mine was thin as well so I restarted and did double the amount of cast ons.

cants find knitting needles rip me rippppp
Shan Yang (2 years ago)
Gamergir111 haha go to Walmart, Michael's, etc.
molly O'Hearn (3 years ago)
Can used any yarn
Fangarai (3 years ago)
which part do you cut? the string that goes towards the yarn ball or the one that was just stretched?
Dorothy C. (3 years ago)
In the end, there should only be two strings: the string at the very beginning of the scarf, which should not be attached to the ball of yarn and working yarn, which should be attached to the ball of yarn. Cut the working yarn, which is the string that should be attached to the ball of yarn before you cut it.
Amber Noel (3 years ago)
am i the only one who has issues with the wrapped part causing a link on the top of the needle. o think im messing it up. :/

Fall Leaves (3 years ago)
Mines got tangled
Liisa (3 years ago)
this is very nice but a a new knitter I wish you could have shown for at least 4 rows in slow motion what you did on each row as I am getting confused on what to do on row 2.
SammyScarlette _ (3 years ago)
I'm a beginning knitter and I think I may have messed up somewhere along the way while trying this tutorial. It seems that my scarf is getting wider with each row. It's beginning to become too long to fit on the needles I'm using. Is this normal or did I mess up somewhere? Thanks!
Sara L (3 years ago)
cool and easy to understand! i like the way you cast on the stiches never seen it before! (I'm from Sweden so we cast on a little bit different)
Rachel T (3 years ago)
Ugh don't listen to these people, your tutorial is fine!! I had to go back and watch it a couple of times to get the pattern right but it's done really well! Thanks for taking the time to share :D
NTopsJoon (3 years ago)
Kamila Rybarz (3 years ago)

Sofia Perry (3 years ago)
How many stitches did you cast on at the beginning?? I'm definitely going to make this!!
Rox 51 (3 years ago)
I tried 11 times!! absolutely dont manage. It would be helpful if you could do more slow mos :) cheers
megkelseyorian (3 years ago)
What is this stitch called? After you finish your second row and start the third, do you knit two and then do the double stitch?

Shan Yang (3 years ago)
+Kaileigh Knopf haha don't worry girl! I had a hard time when I first learned this xD
AJ and KP (3 years ago)
I loved your video and can't wait to make this!😍 but why size needle am I supposed to use? And what sized yarn? If u could reply it would be so helpful
Shan Yang (3 years ago)
+AJ and KP Hey! Thank you so much! I used size 10 or 10 1/2 needles and the yarn, it honestly doesn't matter what size in my opinion :)
Alexandra Mould (3 years ago)
what is this pattern called?  i tried knitting this and on the second row ended up with loads of extra stitches - i dont know what the pattern is called and cant figure out why this happened. The video is so fast and I can't see how you knit the 3rd row
Shan Yang (3 years ago)
+Alexandra Mould I'm not sure what the pattern is called since I learned it from my friend but every row is the same stitches over and over again
jessica chau (3 years ago)
What size yarn are you using and how long is your scarf because this is my first project and I don't know how long scarfs are meant to be. Great video by the way. It was very helpful and informative! However the popping sound effects are too loud especially compared to your voice. Anyhow thanks a lot for putting your time and effort into making this video for us hopeless beginners.
Tai Nhan (3 years ago)
Can you please do MORE knitting videos????!!!! PLEASE!!
Shan Yang (3 years ago)
Tai Nhan (3 years ago)
Shan Yang (3 years ago)
+Tai Nhan Sure, but I need to brainstorm more ideas for these knitting videos :)
Tai Nhan (3 years ago)

Shan Yang (3 years ago)
+Tai Nhan Aww that is sweet! Thank you so much!
Tai Nhan (3 years ago)
Where did you get the needle thingy that you knit with? And if you don't want to answer that what can a replacement for the stick? (I am trying to learn how to knit scarfs) and I am 9 years old.
Shan Yang (3 years ago)
No problem anytime :)
Tai Nhan (3 years ago)
Thanks for your help!
Shan Yang (3 years ago)
+Tai Nhan I got it at Walmart, but any arts & crafts store should sell them too but if you are looking for a substitute, I used to use chopsticks hahahahaha
