These videos never go through scenarios where things do not go as smoothly as they do for you. I am stuck at GRANT READ< WRITE. Do I enter everything aside from user name like you do? I get no directory exists. But I successfully created the directory!
Ryan Watson (11 months ago)
Just in case someone else is running across this... this usually happens when you dont have the directory created in the OS as well. You can set a directory that does not physically exists, but you will get an error when you try to run your export.

C:\Users\User>expdp system/[email protected]/servicename full=Y directory=dmpdir dumpfile=dmpfile.dmp logfile=logfile.log
eddy flare (2 years ago)
if you are receiving the unable to open loag file error do this: 1.login as sys 2. sql> grant read, write on directory data_pump_dir to hr; 3. sql> expdp hr directory=data_pump_dir dumpfile=hr.dmp tables=(TABLES YOU WANT TO EXPORT)
eddy flare (2 years ago)

Thank you. I had a .dmp file to import the user. What I did was create the new user using system user then give grant connect permision. (Sorry for bad English)

Thanks for the tutorial. I have few questions though:  1. While importing, is it mandatory to specify the table names(or the object names)? 2. How do we know what objects are exported to the dump file, as I notice the dump file is cryptic? 3. What happens when we exit the session when the export is in progress?
Zaki Ahmed (4 years ago)
I hope you might have got the answer by now. For the record I am answering. A1. Its not mandatory all the tables mentioned in the expdp will be imported. A2. You mention in the command TABLES=EMP, DEPT etc only those tables will be imported. If you have exported SCHEMA then entire objects from that schema will import unless you declare include exclude command. A3. Your export will fail a partial dump file and corresponding log is created declaring error.
