I came across one of these while diving at Heron Island on the Great Barrier Reef. From a distance, at first I thought it was an eel, which would be unusual to see in open water during the day, so I swam closer. Then I saw its tongue flick out, and realised this was no eel. He saw his reflection in my mask (I think that's why) and actually head-bumped the glass of my mask about 4 or 5 times. Safe to say I kept very still while he was doing this! - He then went between my arm and BC, and wrapped himself around my fins (bright green). He then backed off a bit and kept his distance to about 2m, but he followed us around for the next 5 mins or so. I didn't feel in danger at any point, but I did know he was very venemous. This happened in 1996, and I will remember it clearly to my dying day! :)

I saw one of these a couple weeks ago. It came to the surface after we put some fish guts in the water to get other fish exited.
