I rented the DVD, never felt compelled to see Mara in the other film(s) but I'm just looking for a cheap action thriller on a Monday night. This doesn't seem as dark or complex as TGWTDT or that hideous Mara portrayal...

they turned lisbeth into a secret agent lmao! she even manages to fight trained bad to the bone goons and the hacking is so ridiculous at this point. It is like watching a movie version of watchdogs or something like that.

Lisbeth "Slander"? The narrative of another similar work with similar characters has Lisbeth "Slander" also helping Banks, with a not truly Free Press. And "Slander" as a Comic-Book Villian who "embraces" her "Badness".
She sounds like zero from call of duty 4.

Hated that they showed sisters got along they never did. Lisabeth burned her father, her sister was in foster home. They dramatized it according to how they want

Okay so, Sony is taking the "fourth" book in the millennium trilogy and making it a movie when The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was such a success? It would've been better if they just did a remake of the first book, and have it be like a series of movies. I couldn't get through the Spider Web because it butchered Lisbeth's character, making her seem like some comic book fanatic who thinks she's some vigilant. No shade to the author, but i often wonder if he even read the first three books. This whole thing is a big no
Techknowverse (2 months ago)
This was a good movie.
Mystica Books (2 months ago)
Way to go, Sony. You could have had a phenomenal success with a Girl trilogy featuring Craig and Mara, but like most things, you fucked up due to greed and egotism, and released an inferior "reboot" that's an insult not just to Fincher's version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but especially the Swedish films and Larsson's novels.

That was as boring as boring can be. i didn't care less about any of the characters... and that is a major fault of the directing. Clicked off about twenty minutes before the end... what a waste of time.

I dont know why anyone is asking for Fincher back..I hated the Hollywood version as well. Lisbeth would have NEVER asked for permission to kill. Anyone. It was ridiculous. And this shit of course, even more laughable. Noomi or NO ONE.

Hang on, I've just finished reading the book and am about to watch this movie, and everything I saw in the trailer had nothing to do with the book? Explosions, a giant angel statue booby trap, car accidents, what fucking book did they base this on?

It's a turkey of a movie. I watched it at the cinema and left after an hour, and tried again on DVD months later but lasted an hour ten minutes. The brilliant Claire Foy (love her in The Crown and Unsane) struggles with a ridiculous screenplay. Characters seem to get immediate access to data they need, or know where hidden objects are without justification. Salander knows where the controls are that raise the bridge and knows how to work them. Needham at the airport correctly guesses there's a hidden phone in a closed bin without having any reason to suspect it. Salander drives a car and does stunt driving only moments after having been given a powerful tranquilizer which she has (apparently) managed to neutralise completely by sniffing crushed amphetamine tablets (which she miraculously finds and identifies in a bathroom that is not hers and while half unconscious). When the characters produce a checkmate in a chess game they resign the game by laying the king down (a checkmate doesn't need resignation)?!! The boy plays Salander (an experienced player) at chess, walks away from the board, and announces a checkmate to Salander's surprise - as if she couldn't notice it for herself! Stephen Merchant is just not believable as a scientist. I'm expecting him to crack a joke any second. No one is emotionally connected to anyone. OK, so it wants to be a Jason Bourne movie but the script just lacks intelligence. Claire Foy gives her character some depth but if the screenplay doesn't work then the actors are swimming in treacle. Who on earth gave the green light to this screenplay?! Was there no budget for script development?!!

Is that you Queen Lisabeth?
Not a fan of females playing the hero.
Starwolf7070 I'm saying I'm assuming it's a feminist movie or there might be a lot of stand out feminist scenes. I don't know because I haven't seen it. The gender of the director, producer, or writer do not support weather or not it's a feminist movie. The new "Ghostbusters" and the female version of "Lord of the Flies" are done by men. The new "Beauty and the Beast" was done by a male but it still had one loud mouth, standout female character that was ready to fight against the beast even though that personality did not match the time frame of the story. Belle's character was disliked by the other characters for anti-feminist reasons, too, but that really wasn't needed for the story. Writers, directors, and producers throw things into their moves to shut people up from accusing them of racism, sexism, etc. or to attract specific crowds of people. I looks really lame and weak to me if a movie has added scenes to comfort the angry and sensitive viewers, or even more so if the entire movie is made that supports division between groups of people. If this movie really isn't a shout out to feminists and the character does have some sort of skills she worked hard for than it might be worth watching.
Starwolf7070 (4 months ago)
You Remind Me of the Babe Also, it’s interesting that you call it a feminist movie, even though both the movie and the book was written/directed by a man.
Starwolf7070 (4 months ago)
You Remind Me of the Babe Maybe women are biologically smaller, but if we work out we can gain a considerable amount of muscle. Also, as a girl that’s been training in martial arts for three years, a lot of successful fighting + self defense is using leverage and just being faster than your opponent. Knowledge of pressure points helps as well. And, even though I don’t know this female character very well, she seems almost like an assassin of sorts. She’s trained in combat. We may be smaller, but there’s still a reason for women being in all branches of the military, police force, and other physically demanding jobs. Plus we usually have tools with us that allow us to use something other than brute strength.
Starwolf7070 It's not as realistic. Women are naturally weaker than men (if it's a female super hero, however, that's different). I like this style or some of the similar classics like "The Crow" and "Blade" but they wouldn't have been as good if the hero had been a woman. I would much prefer being rescued by a man if I had a psycho husband that was going to kill me. My fear would have been extinguished much quicker if I saw it was a man taking down my husband than if it was a woman trying to. I also figure it's another feminist movie and feminists in general are loud with blind arguments and false accusations. They are hypocrites in many ways and they are not needed for our day and age.

aries 44 i actually just watched it the other day. I haven’t seen the other movies so I think I can be fresh eyes. I really did enjoy it. (Haven’t seen the other ones so I don’t have emotional ties to other actors, and I also haven’t read the book so I don’t know if the completely butchered the characters.)

A weak looking supposedly superhero.. female smoker.. ? Funny huh... and the movie looks like complete garbage
Starwolf7070 (4 months ago)
welshdragon2008 Idk, seeing those fight scenes doesn’t make her look weak to me. I’ve been in martial arts for three years, you can’t judge someone’s fighting ability on their body. A lot of it has to do with speed, accuracy, and leverage rather than pure strength. She also seems like the assassin type, so she’s probably trained in all types of combat and techniques that would help her.
Emilia Bresciani (4 months ago)
I think all those negative comments miss the point. Every story has a multiplicity of dimensions and every actor that plays the characters provide a variety of elements, so we can enjoy diversity. Clinging to just one "favourite" thing is a view of the past. Like when Earth was flat. Let's move on.There is no good or bad, there is the different. I think Claire Foy is superb, as was Nooni Rapace, and the other girl, Mara, yes. Well they all did a great job to a fascinating continuous saga. Let' applaud instead and enjoy the interpretations..

Dissapointed she should have shot them in the car on the bridge, she should have knocked the masked off in the bathroom...with the gas...they made it so obvious that they wanted the bad guys to stay on longer in the film, but really its so frustrating . .. out of 10 i give it a 7 ..the first film was flauless . ..but i loved the vacuum black plastic . ..

Lars Nelson (5 months ago)
I just watched it and feel so confused. When and in what book Lisbeth has a sister? Why does Mikael Blomkvist is younger in that one when he was older in the first one? How is this film the "next chapter"? The next chapter would be "the girl who played with fire". Give the keys back to Fincher and for the love of Larsson pay Mara and Craig for the real next chapters.

Fincher's is a hundred times better. This is like the 1990's Batman films vs The Dark Knight.
eksine (5 months ago)
looks like a good movie but looks like the ultimate feminist nazi movie
eksine (3 months ago)
@Starwolf7070 I just saw an article that said it's the female batman movie but I have been into computers since childhood. the program for firefall is complete BS. they mixed DOS with a GUI with animation that would be impossible in DOS . a file that can only be moved and not copied? some other weird stuff too. this movie is an equivalent of some CSI: miami (which also has bogus technology) and a perverted spy movie
eksine (3 months ago)
@Starwolf7070 well watching it now and yeah, seems like a feminazi movie/ radical feminist movie right off the bat including she's sleeping with female prostitutes. I do not agree with your point on a man created this so it cannot be feminist. the gender of the creator has nothing to do with that. a female could become the world's greatest astronaut or mechanic, etc. gender is irrelevant
Starwolf7070 (4 months ago)
eksine Yeah, sadly there are a lot of badly written female characters, which is a real shame for women and girls around the world who want to see themselves in all roles (even as well written villains). But, it needs to start somewhere. A movie isn’t always trying to be feminist just by having a strong female lead. Strong women have existed from the beginning of time, we just get shitty representation.
eksine (4 months ago)
@Starwolf7070 I think you're right. it's just I've been reading articles on how they've been making a lot of movies based on the feminist movement, like how Ghostbusters were recast with an all female cast and it failed miserably and even the actresses say it failed because people don't like women when in fact it was because they were bad actors. I think I might go rent this movie. it looks a lot like a female version of 007
Starwolf7070 (4 months ago)
eksine I don’t think that’s so. I mean, both the book and movie were written by/directed by men right? A man created this female character and made her a protagonist.
NANA Yonce (5 months ago)
She is so hot I really liked her acting...
Disabler (5 months ago)
You know feminism has gotten too far when the hero is a woman who tortures men..
Starwolf7070 (4 months ago)
Disabler Well, considering her character was created by a man I find it hard to believe this was meant as a feminist thing. Also, considering she only attacks (most likely influential) men that have greatly abused and hurt women through sexual abuse, she at least has a specific reason to be hunting these specific suspects.
Jay (5 months ago)
For all those bitching, shut up and see the movie, it's awesome! Claire Foy plays a great Lizbeth and the ending will tear your soul out. 😮
Hayden Williams (5 months ago)
I enjoyed this movie immensely. Fincher has always been a little bit of a snob, IMO. His work can feel heavy-handed at times. He picked apart the source material almost to infinitum with TGWTDT. This was a fun, interesting take on Larsson's characters.

Well... I liked this movie 🤷🏻‍♂️
