FREE Crochet Scarf - Stormy Waters Infinity

7195 ratings | 512139 views
FREE PATTERN TUTORIAL- The Stormy Waters Crochet Infinity Scarf features a plush, rich texture, with the added bonus of the shimmery beauty of the Lion Brand Landscapes or Red Heart Unforgettable. You're going to love hooking up this fun accessory! 2 skeins will make approx 50" scarf. Link to written pattern can be found at: http://yarnwars.com/stormy-waters-crochet-infinity-scarf-pattern/ Repeat Rows: 3. Ch 3, skip 1st 2 st, work 3 dc into 3rd st, *skip next 2 st, 3 dc into next st* Repeat ** until you have 2 st left at end of row. Skip 1 st, 1 dc into last st. 4. Ch 2, work 1 sc into 1st st, fpdc around 1st dc in 1st set of 3 dc from previous row, sc into next dc, fpdc around 3rd dc in set. *fpdc around 1st dc of 2nd set of 3 dc from previous row, sc into next dc, fpdc around 3rd dc* Repeat ** for each set of 3 dc from previous round, then work 1 sc into top of the 3rd chain at end. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I've had several people ask now about how to incorporate this pattern into other projects. The width of the scarf pictured is approximately 5.5" with 21 chains. This pattern works in increments of 6 following no less than a chain of 9, if that makes sense. Determine how long you would like the blanket, keeping in mind that your fiber weight will also add or subtract from the size, and calculate based on the numbers started with the scarf. If your throw is going to be, for example, 60" x 80", try a starting chain of 255. For a 50" x 60", maybe 195 chains. Again, no less than a starting chain of 9, increments of 6 chains thereafter... Ex: 9, 15, 21, 27, etc. I hope this helps. I worked each of the above numbers myself and everything worked out great! I would love to see what else you work up with the Stormy Waters pattern! Scroll down to see how you can hook up with us on various social medias to share your work! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Please SUBSCRIBE for more fun FREE crochet patterns to come! Hello dear friends! Many have asked how they can incorporate this pattern into other projects, blankets, etc. I have added to the video description information on how you can accomplish this. In the actual video, I simply tell you to start with an odd number. That won't actually work to give a complete pattern and I apologize for not taking more time to figure that out earlier for all of you. I hope the info in the description helps, make sure you do your own calculations to make 100% sure for whatever project you are working up, but hopefully, that gives better instruction for you to go by!
E de Graaff (24 days ago)
No less than a starting chain of 9, increments of 6 thereafter = increments of 6 + 3
Colleen Hays (23 days ago)
Yep! you will find more info in the video description regarding how to incorporate into different projects outside of scarves 😊
Esta muy bonito pero ablas mucho
Colleen Hays (1 month ago)
I know... one of the downfalls to watching my tutorials... sigh.. Thank you for your comment Isabel!
Sassie O'Sullivan (2 months ago)
I enjoyed to SOUND of your instructions, but believe it would have been easier for us to to SEE the pattern if you could select a light colored yarn on your dark wood grain background, and then, a dark colored yarn on a light to white background. Thank you for the idea.
Colleen Hays (2 months ago)
Thank you Sassie ♥ I totally agree with you on the darks to lights and vice versa. Something I am much more aware of for future videos. Thanks so much for your comment!

Thank you for posting this video, I'm having a lot of fun with this pattern. Do you have a video or tutorial about how to add a new skein of yarn to your work?
Rebecca Colegrove (3 months ago)
I absolutely love the yarn used for this project!😍I am a beginner to crochet and bought the Lion Brand yarn in a beautiful Kelly Green and love it!It has great color and has a rich texture.
Melissa L (4 months ago)
How many foundation chains for like a throw size blanket in this stitch? Love this pattern it’s beautiful
Colleen Hays (4 months ago)
Basically yes, but + 3 only once in the foundation row. After that, actual 6 chain increments 😊 My pleasure! Thanks so much Melissa!
Melissa L (4 months ago)
I also just subscribed, looking forward to seeing what’s next
Melissa L (4 months ago)
Colleen Hays so would it make sense to say increments of 6 plus 3 , that’s what I got from that. So multiple of 6 plus the turning chain of 3 for the first stitch on the next row? Thank you for responding. I looked thru some of your other patterns , love them. Keep up the beautiful work ♥️
Colleen Hays (4 months ago)
Thank you for your kind words Melissa! The width of the scarf pictured is approximately 5.5" with 21 chains. This pattern works in increments of 6 following no less than a chain of 9, if that makes sense. I worked it out the other day. The best I can tell you is to determine how long you would like the blanket, keeping in mind that your fiber weight will also add or subtract from the size, and calculate based on the numbers started with the scarf. If your throw is going to be, for example, 60" x 80", try a starting chain of 255. For a 50" x 60", maybe 195 chains. Again, no less than a starting chain of 9, increments of 6 chains thereafter... Ex: 9, 15, 21, 27, etc. I hope this helps, I think I will post this in the description as well to help others, I've had several people ask now about incorporating it into other projects. It's early morning, and although I double checked my numbers, you might want to run your own calculations based on the increments I gave you. Thanks for your interest in my pattern!
Hi, it’s a very pretty pattern, I would like to make it as a fitted sweater, I dont know how to increase and decrease in the pattern, how do you do that? Best regards Inge
Colleen Hays ok thanks for the idea - Will try to figure it out as long as I decrease a number of 6 then it should work as pattern is a 6 repeat and increase will be adding 6 - thanks will try 😀
Colleen Hays (4 months ago)
If you know how much you would need to decrease for your pattern, you could always do 2 dc together wherever need be in the 3 dc sections, but again, without actually designing a pattern for a sweater, it really wouldn't do much to help you.
Colleen Hays (4 months ago)
I understand, and I wouldn't have any issue showing you how to increase/decrease a basic stitch pattern, this would take a little more finageling ;)
Colleen Hays ok - no its surprising how few tutorials there is on decrease and increase of stich pattern.
Colleen Hays (4 months ago)
@Inge Gjerstrup Fog Larsen I'm sorry, those are just increments for if you are wanted to increase the size, the pattern was written up strictly for scarf and hat, so without spending a little more time, I couldn't say. Over the next few days I can see, but to achieve the pattern, you would be working it over those chain amounts. Without actually designing a sweater, I'm not sure I can help in this.

I made your scarf I made it in a two tone brown with the hat . I wore it to my bosses office she loved it she asked me to make her a set in the two tone brown I added a flower to the hat. Well since that day I made three sets for people.Today a co worker asked me to make her a set in black. I love that pattern but the scarf takes awhile doing.
Colleen Hays (5 months ago)
Thank you so much for your kind comments Deborah! It's so nice to hear when someone enjoys my patterns 😊 Yes, the scarf is a little time consuming but it pays off! Thank you so much for your kind words! ❤

Hello. I was browsing through YouTube for crochet patterns and this video tutorial pop up at me and I immediately fell in love with the stitch pattern and I immediately got to work on my scarf. Within hour, I was already a few rolls done. Thank you so much for sharing! It’s so easy, comfortable, and a relaxing pattern to stitch. I did 31 chains because I wanted mine to be a little wider. You’re awesome! 🥰 PS: I’m using Caron Cake yarn with a I hook. 👍
Colleen Hays (5 months ago)

I just made my wife a ribbed scarf last night it was my first crochet project it came out perfect with nice straight edges and I did the tassel ends I think that is what they are called, little sting ends. My mom showed me how to do a lot of stuff when I was little like sew, crochet, clean, and cook. She said she wanted to make sure I knew how to do everything because most women now a days don't and she was right my wife did not know how to do anything when I married her lol. Of course I was 19 when I got married and we have been married for over 26 years. I will post a pic she wore the scarf tonight.

Lily Plague (9 months ago)
I always do exactly what you say but by the time the second row is over, I only ever have four things, instead of six. I don't know how this happens but I love the pattern and really want to get it right.
Lily Plague (9 months ago)
Yes it did! It's not perfect, but I did get it! I love the texture of the scarf.
Colleen Hays (9 months ago)
Hi Lily! The best way I can explain is to make sure you are working your next row of 3 dc clusters into the middle dc of each cluster from the previous row. If you are doing this, you will always end up with the same number of clusters throughout the pattern. If you are talking about in the very beginning, after creating your foundation chain, if you are chaining the same amount in the beginning as I did, you should be ending up with 6 clusters. Are you possibly starting your 2nd row in the wrong chain to begin? Let me know if that helps at all. Thank you for your interest in my pattern! =)

Lion brand.com has the Landscapes solid colors on sale for $3.50/skein right now. It’s a great deal at half price. I love this pattern and tried it out making a small keepsake blanket that our women’s ministry makes for newborns at our local hospital. It turned out absolutely lovely. Well, i have to ask, never heard the term "froging" before. What is that? Yea! I found out, rip out
Patricia H (9 months ago)
@Colleen Hays No, it means to undo. The worst thing a novice seamstress can do is use a ripper. Likewise, you don't cut errors from your yarn. You pull them out. I have been told it is harder to frog knitting.

That's right! =D LOL
