True. But the players who slam dunk are always the BEST players: MJ, Scottie, Shaq, Magic, LeBron, Kobe, etc. It's when folk ONLY slam dunk, but are not effective basketball players, that slam dunk ability loses its importance and becomes just sort of a gimmick. Slam dunks are like the icing on the cake, the cake being effective basketball playing.

dunking isn't everything in the NBA

So, do you mean that someone who's good at slam-dunk may not be good at other aspects of basketball? I really thought that slam-dunk ability sorta meant one was a great basketball player since all the best slam-dunkers I'd heard of like Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Dr. J, etc. are great basketball players. It seems odd that one could do great slam-dunks yet not be great basketball player.
