Held on April 3 2018 An exploration of the nuances of fetching a single row. You have a number of implementation choices and it is definitely not a one-size-fits-all. Steven reviewed the most common options (implicit cursor (SELECT-INTO), explicit cursor, cursor FOR loop) and touched on dynamic SQL. He then answered questions about options for multi-row fetching, table operator and table functions and more. Here's a quick guide to the highlights: First 12 minutes: some philosophical musings and an overview of single row fetching 12:30 - Explicit Cursors 14:45 - Declaring records based on explicit cursors 16:15 - The benefits and drawbacks of the cursor FOR loop (for single row fetches) 19:42 - Multi-row fetching options 24:00 - Table operator and table functions 31:15 - Use LiveSQL as source of examples AskTOM Office Hours offers free, monthly training and tips on how to make the most of Oracle Database, from Oracle product managers, developers and evangelists. https://asktom.oracle.com/ https://developer.oracle.com https://cloud.oracle.com/en_US/tryit music: bensound.com

How to : Use oracle sql: learning sql

08:49
Learn sql basics and start writing queries now SQL is shorthand for Structured Query Language. Oracle SQL is a language and not an application. It is a language that can be used to communicate with databases and analyze data. Before you use Oracle SQL, you need to understand what a database is. It’s a collection of data stored in an organized fashion. The data is stored in tables, in either a column or a row. Vertical data is called a column, and horizontal data is called a row. Oracle SQL is composed of keywords such as SELECT, FROM, WHERE, GROUP BY, HAVING, and ORDER BY. The 6 keywords mentioned above allow you to query a database and analyze its information. It's important that you understand these SQL basics during training. When you write a query, please remember to use the SQL keywords below in the order you see them. Learning SQL can be tricky but these tips will help. SELECT allows you to choose the columns you want to see within a table. If you are not sure which you would like to see … use the asterisk to see all columns within a table. SELECT * FROM u.agg_ia_clickstream Once you see the columns, you can determine which ones you want to use. SELECT c.date, c.unique_visitors PV’s FROM u.agg_ia_clickstream c FROM allows you to choose the table you want data from. SELECT c.date, c.unique_visitors PV’s FROM u.agg_ia_clickstream c WHERE allows you to filter data on a row level. The WHERE clause is applied before the GROUP BY clause. SELECT c.date, c.unique_visitors PV’s FROM u.agg_ia_clickstream c WHERE c.date > 20070801 In this case, the WHERE clause allows you to see ony unique visitors who have PV’s greater ( > ) than 10. GROUP BY - When you use aggregate functions in a SELECT statement such as sum, count, etc., place the non-aggregate functions in the GROUP BY. An aggregate function operates on table rows to calculate and return a single function. Examples of aggregate functions are: sum(), avg(), count(), max(), and min(). You can intuitively guess what the functions do. Sum() for instance will sum, whereas avg() will average, etc. SELECT c.date, sum(c.unique_visitors) PV’s FROM u.agg_ia_clickstream c WHERE c.date > 20070801 GROUP BY c.date So, whenever you use an aggregate function in a SELECT statement, make sure that the NON aggregate functions are in the GROUP BY keyword. That is what I mean by punctuation in SQL. Whenever you write a sentence, you put a period at the end of the sentence. Whenever you write a SQL query, you put your punctuation in the GROUP BY. HAVING group level filtering is commonly used to eliminate rows. It is written after the GROUP BY clause. Aggregate functions can be used in the HAVING clause. SELECT c.date, sum(c.unique_visitors) PV’s FROM u.agg_ia_clickstream c WHERE c.date > 20070801 GROUP BY c.date HAVING sum(c.unique_visitors) > 10 ORDER BY is used to order your output. The order of rows returned by a SQL query is not guaranteed unless you use a ORDER BY clause. SELECT c.date, sum(c.unique_visitors) PV’s FROM u.agg_ia_clickstream c WHERE c.date > 20070801 GROUP BY c.date HAVING sum(c.unique_visitors) > 10 ORDER BY sum(c.unique_visitors) desc In this query, I want to see my results sorted by PV’s. By following the instructions above, the learning process shouldn't be too difficult. With this training, you can now write basic Oracle SQL queries. When you do, don’t forget to follow the SQL basics order I provided: SELECT, FROM, WHERE, GROUP BY, HAVING, and ORDER BY. Also consider breaking up Oracle SQL statements over multiple lines to make them easier to read and debug. Have fun! Required Tools: Oracle SQL Quick Tips: Break up Oracle SQL statements over multiple lines to make them easier to read and debug. SQL statements are case-insensitive. You can use capital letters or lower case letters; it’s up to you. Hit F9 to run your query. Useful Links: Download Oracle

Oracle DECODE Function

04:31
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-decode-function/ The Oracle DECODE function lets you perform IF-THEN-ELSE functionality in your queries. It’s similar to a CASE statement. The syntax of the DECODE function is: DECODE ( expression, search, result [, search, result]... [,default] ) The parameters of the Oracle DECODE function are: - expression (mandatory): This is the value to compare. - search (mandatory): This is the value to compare against the expression. - result (mandatory): This is the return value if the search value matches the expression value. There can be multiple combinations of search and result values, and the result value is attached to the previous search value. - default (optional): If none of the search values match, then this value is returned. If this is not provided, the DECODE function will return NULL if no matches are found. If you compare this to an IF-THEN-ELSE statement, it would look like this: IF (expression = search) THEN result [ELSE IF (expression = search) THEN result] ELSE default END IF The parameters can be one of many different data types, and the return type is calculated from them. Earlier I mentioned it’s similar to CASE. So why would you use one and not the other? - DECODE is an older function, and CASE was introduced as a replacement for DECODE. - CASE offers more flexibility then DECODE - CASE is also easier to read and debug (in my opinion) The performance of these functions is the same, so if you’re considering using DECODE, I would suggest using CASE instead. For more information about the Oracle DECODE function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-decode-function/

This is the video in the series of Windowing functions in Spark. In this tutorial, we would understand the internals of First_value and Last_value functions in this lecture. Before that, if you have missed the first part of Windowing functions in spark SQL part 1 i.e. Lead and Lag functions, here is the link, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MViPRjaqfaA&t=3s These are inbuilt functions which operate on a set of rows and return a single value for each row from the underlying query. This can be very useful to simplify complex queries and break them down into logical components. To give you a brief idea of these windowing functions in spark, we will be using stock market data. You can download the sample stocks data from the link in the following, Dataset download link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1nWGndnKxCNi5WKqPMBbrEhp4CBIWb7O- Commands link for First value and Last Value: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1jjtg26NkJURbfzGvZ1r-voCX0gFv1xwu Let's now understand the input(Dataset) and expected the output of First_value function. 1st column in this dataset is the date, 2nd column is the ticker which is nothing but the stock name, 3rd column is the open value of a stock, 4th column is the highest value of stock on a particular day, 5th column is the lowest value of stock on a particular day, 6th column is the closing value of stock, and the last column is the volume of the stocks on that particular day. In the sample output on the right-hand side of the screen. We have performed the query to retrieve ticker, date, high and derived column First_heigh. which is the value of high when ticker appears 1st time in the dataset. Ian in Nashville gets data from the system. The date column has date and time. This really screws up the pivot table, because instead of daily dates, he gets time. One solution: Group the pivot table by Date Better solution: Power Query Make the downloaded data set in to a table with Ctrl+T Data, From Table. Select the Date Time column and transform to Date Close and Load Build the pivot table from that The next time you get data, paste to original table. Go to Query. Refresh. Refresh the Pivot Table To download this workbook: https://www.mrexcel.com/download-center/2018/05/date-time-to-date.xlsx List of upcoming seminars: https://www.mrexcel.com/press-appearances/

Relational Calculus: Tuple Relational Calculus: Domain Relational in Database management

08:36
In this lecture you will learn about Relational Calculus in DBMS and its different types like : Tuple Relational Calculus and Domain Relational Calculus. How we will write a query in the form of Relational Calculus. What is Relational Calculus? : It is just opposite of Relational Algebra( Procedural query language to fetch data). Relational Calculus in non-procedural query language. Relational Calculus explains how it is done. It has no description about how the query will work or the data will be fetched ? It only focuses on what to do, but not on how to do it? Relational Calculus exists in two forms / Types: Tuple Relational Calculus (TRC) Domain Relational Calculus (DRC) Tuple Relational Calculus (TRC) : In this, we work on only filtering the tuples which is based on the given condition. Syntax: T | Condition In this, we define a tuple variable, specify the table(relation) name in which the tuple is to be searched for, along with a condition. In this, We can also specify column name using a . dot operator, with the tuple variable to only get a certain attribute(column) in the result. A tuple variable is nothing but a name, can be anything, generally we use a single alphabet for this, so let's say T is a tuple variable. To specify the name of the relation(table) in which we want to look for data, we do the following: Relation(T), where T is our tuple variable. Example: if our table is Student, we will write it as Student(T). Then comes the condition part, to specify a condition applicable for a particluar attribute(column), we can use the . dot variable with the tuple variable to specify it, like in table Student, if we want to get data for students with age greater than 17, then, we can write it as, T.age 17, where T is our tuple variable. Putting it all together, if we want to use Tuple Relational Calculus to fetch names of students, from table Student, with age greater than 17, then, for T being our tuple variable, T.name | Student(T) AND T.age 17 Domain Relational Calculus (DRC) : In this, filtering is done based on the domain of the attributes and not based on the tuple values. Syntax:  c1, c2, c3, ..., cn | F(c1, c2, c3, ... ,cn) where, c1, c2... Etc are domain of attributes(columns) and F defines the formula including the condition for fetching the data. For example, { name, age | ∈ Student age 17} Again, the above query will return the names and ages of the students in the table those Students are older than 17. If there is music playing, we will limit each continues recording to under 30 seconds to avoid copyright issues on YouTube. Also, we did not modify the video to account for stability due to timeliness of upload (the sooner the upload for you, the better, is the mantra here). Finally, the foremost reason why the video is often times shaky is because we are simultaneously filming on other platforms such as Twitter or Instagram. This account was built on Twitter (over 140,000 followers), so we will always make them a priority and timeliness of those tweets are just as important as getting this HD video processed and uploaded as well -- so if you could please be more appreciative of our inside looks as no other media companies currently do this, it will allow us to have faith in what we’re doing and continue the endeavor. SSIS XML Tutorial Part 1 - Introduction (Export / Create XML / POST to SOAP API URL)

02:42
In this video you will learn how to generate a complex XML using SSIS (Create XML file using SSIS Control Flow Task / Data Flow Component). You will find this video helpful if you want to export XML data from a SQL Server (or other source e.g. Oracle, MySQL, DB2) to an XML file, you will also learn how to POST XML data to SOAP Web Service URL or submit XML-based REST API URL.. To see all SSIS XML Tasks and other REST / SOAP API related components check this link https://zappysys.com/products/ssis-powerpack ============================== SSIS Components used in this Video ============================== ZappySys PowerPack provides these components to deal with various XML generation scenarios: * SSIS Export XML Task * SSIS XML File Destination * SSIS XML Generator Transform In case you are watching this video but want to read XML files, use SSIS XML Source component or SSIS XML Parser Transform to parse XML from upstream column. ============================== SSIS Export XML File Task ============================== Use Export XML Task when you want to export XML from a database with great performance. Export XML Task supports SQL Server or any other database that you can connect to using ODBC or OLEDB drivers. You can export XML to a file, Azure Blob Storage, Amazon S3 Storage, SFTP or FTPS. With Export XML Task you can export a table as is with minimal configuration or export to a custom layout XML. https://zappysys.com/products/ssis-powerpack/ssis-export-xml-file-task/ Features: * Export multiple tables/views to XML files (e.g. Sales% or do SalesJan|SalesFeb) * Export SQL query output to XML file * Inbuilt Layout Editor for creating complex XML with nested structure (Document Array, Value Array, Nested attributes * Automatically Split exported XML data into multiple files by Size or Number of records * Automatically Split exported XML data into multiple files by Split By Column (e.g. SplitBy=Country will create new file for each country) * Support for Compression and Append * Create Multi content XML documents * Support for SQL Server 2017, 2016, 2014, 2012, 2008 (32/64 bit) and now Azure Data Factory * Articles/Tutorials: XML related articles ============================== SSIS XML File Destination ============================== XML File Destination is very similar to Export XML Task, except that it can use anything from upstream in a Data Flow and then save an XML to a file. XML File Destination, as well as Export XML Task and XML Generator Transform, which I will speak about in a moment, all support multiple data inputs. It means that you can have, for example, Customers as one input, Orders as another, and then join these two on a key to write customers with all their corresponding orders as child elements. https://zappysys.com/products/ssis-powerpack/ssis-xml-destination/ Features: * Generate complex XML document from single or multiple inputs * Easy to use drag & drop layout Editor for creating complex JSON with nested structure * Support for SQL Server 2017, 2016, 2014, 2012, 2008 (32/64 bit) and now Azure Data Factory ============================== SSIS XML Generator Transform ============================== Finally, use XML Generator Transform when you have data coming from upstream in a Data Flow and yet you still need to pass the generated XML downstream. For example, you want to generate an XML that you need to save to a database or submit it to an XML-based API. https://zappysys.com/products/ssis-powerpack/ssis-xml-generator-transform/ Features: * Create simple or nested XML documents inside DataFlow Task using simple drag and drop approach * Ability to create nested XML from Multiple datasets * Ability to create single XML document for all input records or create one document for each input row from ROOT dataset * Preview XML structure as you change layout on User Interface * Ability to join different type of datasets (e.g. SQL Server, Flat File, Excel) to create parent-child relation for nested XML * Support for SQL Server 2017, 2016, 2014, 2012, 2008 (32/64 bit) and now Azure Data Factory ============================== SSIS Web API Destination ============================== SSIS Web API Destination can be used to POST data to any API end point such as JSON API (i.e. POST to REST API) or POST to XML API (i.e. SOAP Web Service). This task provides several advanced options which makes it possible to connect virtually any API Service. https://zappysys.com/products/ssis-powerpack/ssis-web-api-destination-connector/ Features: * POST data to any API endpoint without coding (Read more…) * Support for windows / basic authentication, client certificate and OAuth (Read more…) * Support for File upload, REST API POST using Multipart/form-data (Read more…) * Support for Cookies (Read more…) * Support for Response Output (includes ResponseText and StatusCode) * Support for Error Output (Redirect failed request) * Support for easy Test UI (see request/response)

Relational Algebra: Select(σ), Project(∏):Union(∪) in DBMS

15:18
In This lecture you will learn about Relational Algebra and their different types of operations like: Select(σ), Project(∏):Union(∪):Set Difference (-) Operations, Rename operations(ρ) , Cartesian Product (X) in DBMS. What is Relational Algebra?: Every DBMS must define a query language that allows users to access the data from database.  Relational Algebra is a procedural query -language which is used to access the data from database through query. In relational algebra, INPUT is a relation(table from which data has to be accessed) and OUTPUT is also a relation(a temporary table holding the data asked by the user). Relational Algebra works on the whole table. In this, we specify the table name from which we need the data, and in a single line of command, relational algebra will traverse the entire given table to fetch the data. Operations in Relational Algebra : Following operations performed on table using relational algebra are: Select Project Union Set Different Cartesian product Rename Relational Algebra is also used for Join operations like : Natural Join Outer Join Theta join Select Operation (σ): This operation is used to fetch rows (tuples) from table(relation) which satisfies a given condition. It is denoted by σ. Syntax: σp(r) Where, σ represents the Select Predicate, r is the table (relation) name (table name in which you want to look for data), and p is the Prepositional logic where we specify the conditions that must be satisfied by the data. In prepositional logic, one can use unary and binary operators like =, etc, to specify the conditions. Example: Student table, we want to access those students having age 17 years. How we will write it in relational algebra : σage 17 (Student) This will fetch the tuples(rows) from table Student, for which age will be greater than 17. You can also use, and, or etc operators, to specify two conditions, for example, σage 17 and gender = 'Male' (Student) This will return tuples(rows) from table Student with information of male students, of age more than 17.(Consider the Student table has an attribute Gender too.) Project Operation (∏) : This operation is used to project only a certain set of attributes of a relation(Table). It is denoted by ∏. Example: If we want to see the name of the students in the Student table, then we can use Project Operation. It will only project or show the columns(attributes) asked for, and will also remove duplicate data from the columns. Syntax: ∏A1, A2...(r) where A1, A2 are attribute name(column name). For example, ∏Name, Age(Student) Above statement will show us only the Name and Age columns for all the rows of data in Student table. Union Operation (∪) : It is used to fetch the data from two relations(tables). In this, the each relations(tables) should have same number of attributes(columns) and same attribute domain. In this, the duplicate tuples are automatically removed from the result. Syntax: A ∪ B where A and B are relations. For example, if we have two tables Regular Class and Extra Class, both have a column student. How we will write : ∏Student(RegularClass) ∪ ∏Student(ExtraClass) Above operation will give us name of Students who are attending both regular classes and extra classes, eliminating repetition. Set Difference (-): This operation is used “To find data present in one relation and not present in the second relation”. This operation is also applicable on two relations, just like Union operation. Syntax: A - B where A and B are relations. For example, if we want to find name of students who attend the regular class but not the extra class, then, we can use the below operation: ∏Student(RegularClass) - ∏Student(ExtraClass) FOR MORE VIDEO SUBSCRIBE THE CHANNEL : Computer science academy by Dinesh Sir
