Oracle LISTAGG Function

04:57
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-listagg/ The Oracle LISTAGG function allows you to aggregate or combine string values from multiple rows into a single row. For example, it turns this data: FIRST_NAME Adam Brad Carrie Into this data: FIRST_NAME Adam, Brad, Carrie The same data is shown, but it’s in one row and not multiple. It’s a valuable string manipulation function, and once you know what it is and how it works, you’ll be able to use it in your queries as needed. So what does it look like? The function is: LISTAGG ( measure_expr [, delimiter]) WITHIN GROUP (order_by_clause) [OVER query_partition_clause] These parameters are: measure_expr: This is a column or expression that you want to concatenate the values of. In the example above, it was the first_name column. Mandatory. delimiter: This is the character between each of the measure_expr values. Optional, the default is a comma. order_by_clause: This is the order that the values from the measure_expr are listed. Mandatory. query_partition_clause: This allows you to use LISTAGG as an analytic function, allowing you to show LISTAGG in groups for different rows. One thing to be aware of is that the output of the Oracle LISTAGG function is limited to 4,000 bytes. If you get more than this, you’ll receive an error. The most common way around this that I’ve seen is to write a custom function and use a CLOB. Watch the video to find out more and see some examples. For more information about the Oracle LISTAGG function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-listagg/

This is one of the sql questions that is very commonly asked. I have a web page with a textbox. When I enter a table name in the textbox and when I click "Load Data" button, we want to retrieve data from that respective table and display it on the page. Copy the SQL Script to create the tables from my blog using the link below http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-table-name-variable.html Create the following stored procedure. Notice we are passing table name as a parameter to the stored prcoedure. In the body of the stored procedure we are concatenating strings to build our dynamic sql statement. In our previous videos we discussed that this open doors for SQL injection. Create procedure spDynamicTableName @TableName nvarchar(100) As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from ' + @TableName Execute sp_executesql @sql End So the obvious question that comes to our mind is, why are we not creating parameterised sql statement instead. The answers is we can't. SQL Server does not allow table names and column names to be passed as parameters. Notice in the example below, we are creating a parameterised query with @TabName as a parameter. When we execute the following code, the procedure gets created successfully. Create procedure spDynamicTableName1 @TableName nvarchar(100) As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from @TabName' Execute sp_executesql @sql, N'@TabName nvarchar(100)', @TabName = @TableName End But when we try to execute it we get an error - Must declare the table variable "@TabName" Execute spDynamicTableName1 N'Countries' Add a Web Page to the project that we have been working with in our previous video. Name it "DynamicTableName.aspx". Copy and paste the HTML from my blog using the link below http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-table-name-variable.html Copy and paste the code from my blog in the code-behind page http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-table-name-variable.html At this point, run the application and type the following text in the "Table Name" textbox and click "Load Data" button. Notice "SalesDB" database is dropped. Our application is prone to SQL injection as we have implemented dynamic sql in our stored procedure by concatenating strings instead of using parameters. Employees; Drop database SalesDB One way to prevent SQL injection in this case is by using SQL Server built-in function - QUOTENAME(). We will discuss QUOTENAME() function in detail in our next video. For now understand that by default, this function wraps that string that is passed to it in a pair of brackets. SELECT QUOTENAME('Employees') returns [Employees] Modify the stored procedure to use QUOTENAME() function as shown below. Alter procedure spDynamicTableName @TableName nvarchar(100) As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from ' + QUOTENAME(@TableName) Execute sp_executesql @sql End At this point, type the following text in the "Table Name" textbox and click "Load Data" button. Notice you will see a message - Invalid object name 'Employees; Drop database SalesDB'. Also "SalesDB" database is not dropped. Employees; Drop database SalesDB The entire text in "Table Name" textbox is wrapped in a pair of brackets by the QUOTENAME function and is treated as table name. Since we do have a table with the specified name, we get the error - Invalid object name.

How to create Virtual Columns in Oracle Database

09:02
How to create Virtual Columns in Oracle Database 12c When queried, virtual columns appear to be normal table columns, but their values are derived rather than being stored on disc. The syntax for defining a virtual column is listed below. column_name [datatype] [GENERATED ALWAYS] AS (expression) [VIRTUAL] If the datatype is omitted, it is determined based on the result of the expression. The GENERATED ALWAYS and VIRTUAL keywords are provided for clarity only. The script below creates and populates an employees table with two levels of commission. It includes two virtual columns to display the commission-based salary. The first uses the most abbreviated syntax while the second uses the most verbose form. CREATE TABLE employees ( id NUMBER, first_name VARCHAR2(10), last_name VARCHAR2(10), salary NUMBER(9,2), comm1 NUMBER(3), comm2 NUMBER(3), salary1 AS (ROUND(salary*(1+comm1/100),2)), salary2 NUMBER GENERATED ALWAYS AS (ROUND(salary*(1+comm2/100),2)) VIRTUAL, CONSTRAINT employees_pk PRIMARY KEY (id) ); INSERT INTO employees (id, first_name, last_name, salary, comm1, comm2) VALUES (1, 'JOHN', 'DOE', 100, 5, 10); INSERT INTO employees (id, first_name, last_name, salary, comm1, comm2) VALUES (2, 'JAYNE', 'DOE', 200, 10, 20); COMMIT; Querying the table shows the inserted data plus the derived commission-based salaries. SELECT * FROM employees; ID FIRST_NAME LAST_NAME SALARY COMM1 COMM2 SALARY1 SALARY2 ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- 1 JOHN DOE 100 5 10 105 110 2 JAYNE DOE 200 10 20 220 240 2 rows selected. SQL The expression used to generate the virtual column is listed in the DATA_DEFAULT column of the [DBA|ALL|USER]_TAB_COLUMNS views. COLUMN data_default FORMAT A50 SELECT column_name, data_default FROM user_tab_columns WHERE table_name = 'EMPLOYEES'; COLUMN_NAME DATA_DEFAULT ------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------- ID FIRST_NAME LAST_NAME SALARY COMM1 COMM2 SALARY1 ROUND("SALARY"*(1+"COMM1"/100),2) SALARY2 ROUND("SALARY"*(1+"COMM2"/100),2) 8 rows selected. SQL Notes and restrictions on virtual columns include: 1)Indexes defined against virtual columns are equivalent to function-based indexes. 2)Virtual columns can be referenced in the WHERE clause of updates and deletes, but they cannot be manipulated by DML. 3)Tables containing virtual columns can still be eligible for result caching. 4)Functions in expressions must be deterministic at the time of table creation, but can subsequently be recompiled and made non-deterministic without invalidating the virtual column. In such cases the following steps must be taken after the function is recompiled: a)Constraint on the virtual column must be disabled and re-enabled. b)Indexes on the virtual column must be rebuilt. c)Materialized views that access the virtual column must be fully refreshed. d)The result cache must be flushed if cached queries have accessed the virtual column. e)Table statistics must be regathered. 5)Virtual columns are not supported for index-organized, external, object, cluster, or temporary tables. 6)The expression used in the virtual column definition has the following restrictions: a.It cannot refer to another virtual column by name. b.It can only refer to columns defined in the same table. c.If it refers to a deterministic user-defined function, it cannot be used as a partitioning key column. e.The output of the expression must be a scalar value. It cannot return an Oracle supplied datatype, a user-defined type, or LOB or LONG RAW.

You query a database table with a select statement. But unless you provide a where clause, this will return you all the rows! That's a lot for you to sift through if your table has millions, billions or trillions of rows. Oracle NVL2 Function

03:05
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-nvl-nvl2-logical-functions/ The Oracle NVL2 function is an extension of the NVL function and can be used to handle NULL values. It allows you to specify a value to check for NULL, a separate value to return if the value is NULL, and another value to return if the first value is not NULL. It’s very similar to NVL but allows for more flexibility. The syntax for NVL2 is: NVL2( value_to_check, value_if_not_null, value_if_null ) What are these parameters: Value_to_check is the value the function checks to see if it is NULL. Value_if_not_null is the value to return if the first value, value_to_check, is not NULL. Value_if_null is the value to return if the first value, value_to_check, is NULL. These parameters can have almost any data type (the second and third parameter can’t be a LONG data type). Oracle will determine the data type from the supplied parameters. There are quite a few of these conditional checking functions in Oracle, so the one to use would depend on your needs. But it’s good to know this function exists. For more information about the Oracle NVL2 function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-nvl-nvl2-logical-functions/

Oracle FLOOR Function

01:49
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-ceil/ The Oracle FLOOR function will return the largest integer value less than the specified number. In other words, it rounds down to the nearest whole number. It’s the opposite of the CEIL function, which rounds up. The syntax of FLOOR is: FLOOR(number) The number parameter can be any numeric data type. The function will return a number in the same data type as the parameter. So, you can use FLOOR with decimal numbers, which is actually where FLOOR works best. You can use it with whole numbers too. It won’t show an error, it just might display the same value as provided (e.g. FLOOR(5) would be 5). You can also use functions inside FLOOR. For example, FLOOR(SUM(salary)) will SUM all of the salary values, and then round them down to the nearest whole number. Just like with all functions, the Oracle FLOOR function can also use column aliases. So, instead of having your column labelled “FLOOR(8.12)” or “FLOOR(salary)”, you can label your column “salary_rounded” or something that makes more sense. The FLOOR function is similar to the ROUND function. However, ROUND will round up or down, where FLOOR will always round down. The TRUNC function will also do some kind of rounding, but it removes decimals from a number which may cause it to “round” down. For more information, including the code used in the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-ceil/

SQL script to insert into many to many table

This means a given student can be enrolled into many courses and a given course can have many students enrolled. Below is the question asked in an interview for SQL Server Developer role. Write a SQL script to insert data into StudentCourses table. Here are the rules that your script should follow. 1. There will be 2 inputs for the script Student Name - The name of the student who wants to enroll into a course Course Name - The name of the course the student wants to enroll into 2. If the student is already in the Students table, then use that existing Student Id. If the student is not already in the Students table, then a row for that student must be inserted into the Students table, and use that new student id. 3. Along the same lines, if the course is already in the Courses table, then use that existing Course Id. If the course is not already in the Courses table, then a row for that course must be inserted into the Courses table, and use that new course id. 4. There should be no duplicate student course enrollments, i.e a given student must not be enrolled in the same course twice. For example, Tom must not be enrolled in C# course twice. Answer : To avoid duplicate student course enrollments create a composite primary key on StudentId and CourseId columns in StudentCourses table. With this composite primary key in place, if someone tries to enroll the same student in the same course again we get violation of primary key constraint error. Alter table StudentCourses Add Constraint PK_StudentCourses Primary Key Clustered (CourseId, StudentId) Here is the SQL script that inserts data into the 3 tables as expected Declare @StudentName nvarchar(50) = 'Sam' Declare @CourseName nvarchar(50) = 'SQL Server' Declare @StudentId int Declare @CourseId int -- If the student already exists, use the existing student ID Select @StudentId = Id from Students where StudentName = @StudentName -- If the course already exists, use the existing course ID Select @CourseId = Id from Courses where CourseName = @CourseName -- If the student does not exist in the Students table If (@StudentId is null) Begin -- Insert the student Insert into Students values(@StudentName) -- Get the Id of the student Select @StudentId = SCOPE_IDENTITY() End -- If the course does not exist in the Courses table If (@CourseId is null) Begin -- Insert the course Insert into Courses values(@CourseName) -- Get the Id of the course Select @CourseId = SCOPE_IDENTITY() End -- Insert StudentId & CourseId in StudentCourses table Insert into StudentCourses values(@StudentId, @CourseId) If required, we can very easily convert this into a stored procedure as shown below. How to create Stored procedure select query

11:43
stored procedure (also termed proc, storp, sproc, StoPro, StoredProc, StoreProc, sp, or SP) is a subroutine available to applications that access a relational database management system (RDBMS). Such procedures are stored in the database data dictionary. Uses for stored procedures include data-validation (integrated into the database) or access-control mechanisms. Furthermore, stored procedures can consolidate and centralize logic that was originally implemented in applications. To save time and memory, extensive or complex processing that requires execution of several SQL statements can be saved into stored procedures, and all applications call the procedures. One can use nested stored procedures by executing one stored procedure from within another. Stored procedures may return result sets, i.e., the results of a SELECT statement. Such result sets can be processed using cursors, by other stored procedures, by associating a result-set locator, or by applications. Stored procedures may also contain declared variables for processing data and cursors that allow it to loop through multiple rows in a table. Stored-procedure flow-control statements typically include IF, WHILE, LOOP, REPEAT, and CASE statements, and more. Stored procedures can receive variables, return results or modify variables and return them, depending on how and where the variable is declared.

SQL Group Functions

05:29
for more videos login on www.pravendragaur.com Aggregate functions return a single result row based on groups of rows, rather than on single rows. Aggregate functions can appear in select lists and in ORDER BY and HAVING clauses. They are commonly used with the GROUP BY clause in a SELECT statement.

A CTE is similar to a derived table in that it is not stored as an object and lasts only for the duration of the query. Unlike a derived table, a CTE can be self-referencing and can be referenced multiple times in the same query

PART-2 (Oracle Functions) Oracle PL SQL Training - Fast Track Series

26:20
Topic 2: Functions in PL SQL. In oracle there are two types of functions available. 1. Oracle Supplied Function (Built in Functions) Scaler Functions a) String Functions Length, instr, substr, rtrim, ltrim, lower, upper, concat, replace sqlplus sanket/patel SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.2.0 Production on Tue Feb 14 11:38:56 2017 Copyright (c) 1982, 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved. Connected to: Oracle Database 11g Express Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production SQL# SQL# select length('sanket') from dual; LENGTH('SANKET') ---------------- 6 SQL# select instr('sanket','n') from dual; INSTR('SANKET','N') ------------------- 3 SQL# select substr('sanket',1,3) from dual; SUB --- san SQL# select ltrim(' sanket ') from dual; LTRIM('S -------- sanket SQL# select rtrim(' sanket ') from dual; RTRIM('S -------- sanket SQL# select trim(' sanket ') from dual; TRIM(' ------ sanket SQL# select lower('SanKet') from dual; LOWER( ------ sanket SQL# select upper('SanKet') from dual; UPPER( ------ SANKET SQL# select concat('sanket','patel') from dual; CONCAT('SAN ----------- sanketpatel SQL# SQL# select replace('patel','e','i') from dual; REPLA ----- patil SQL# b) Date Functions Sysdate, add_months, extract, last_day, next_day, months_between c) Numeric Functions Trunc, ceil, round d) Oracle Type Cast or Conversion Functions To_char, to_date, to_number e) Null functions Nvl, Nvl2 Aggregate Functions Count,min,max,sum 2. User Defined Functions (PL SQL) CREATE [OR REPLACE] FUNCTION function_name [ (parameter [,parameter]) ] RETURN return_datatype IS | AS [declaration_section] BEGIN executable_section [EXCEPTION exception_section] END [function_name]; Characteristics of Functions • Function must returns some value • Function can be called from select statement • Function support all three types of parameters available in oracle like IN, OUT and IN OUT parameters. Types of Parameters: IN Parameter: We can’t overwrite value of such kind of parameters. It is used to pass reference values to program and utilized it within the programs or sub-programs or other standalone programs. OUT Parameter: We can overwrite value of such kind of parameters. It is not useful to pass reference values to program and utilized it within the programs or sub-programs or other standalone programs but output value must need to be hold by calling program. IN OUT Parameter: We can overwrite value as well as pass reference value to program or sub-programs or other standalone programs but output value must need to be hold by calling program. EXAMPLES: --FUNCTION WITH OUT PARAMETER CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION GET_DATE_HH24TIME RETURN VARCHAR2 IS HH24DATE_TIME VARCHAR2(20); BEGIN HH24DATE_TIME := TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS'); RETURN HH24DATE_TIME; END; / --FUNCTION WITH PARAMETER CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION GET_P_DATE_HH24TIME (P_HH24DATE_TIME IN DATE) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS HH24DATE_TIME VARCHAR2(20); BEGIN HH24DATE_TIME := TO_CHAR(P_HH24DATE_TIME,'DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS'); RETURN HH24DATE_TIME; END; / SELECT GET_P_DATE_HH24TIME(SYSDATE) FROM DUAL; Drop Functions: We can drop function from the database. DROP FUNCTION GET_P_DATE_HH24TIME; SQL# SELECT OBJECT_NAME FROM USER_OBJECTS WHERE OBJECT_TYPE = 'FUNCTION'; OBJECT_NAME --------------------------------------------------------------------------GET_DATE_HH24TIME GET_P_DATE_HH24TIME DROP FUNCTION GET_DATE_HH24TIME;
