....http://bengalvoice2.blogspot.com

Why the GWADAR PORT in Pakistan is changing the world’s geo-political landscape - KJ Vids

02:36
Why a fishing town in Pakistan is changing the world’s geo-political landscape! A small fishing town in the South-West of Pakistan, Gwadar is the gateway city of China's $62 Billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor. A deep sea port strategically located in the Indian Ocean at the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Pakistan leased Gwadar Port to China in 2015 as part of a $62 Billion deal. China also acquired 22,000 acres of land adjoining the port in Gwadar which has been declared a Special Economic Zone. A 1224 Kilometre highway is being built from China ending in Gwadar emulating the ancient Silk Road Gwadar will link the Silk Road on land with the Maritime Silk Road The new Silk Road reduces shipping times for Chinese goods to the Middle-East, Africa and Europe by up to 80%. Gwadar is being developed under the model of China's Shenzhen through the establishment of Special Economic Zones. Shenzhen was amongst the fastest growing cities in the world growing from a population of 30,000 in 1979 to 10 Million in 2017 with a GDP of $294 Billion! Zhang Baozhong, the Chairman of China Overseas Port Holding Company said “China plan to spend $4.5 billion on developing Gwadar.” In November 2016 the first cargo travelled the Silk Road from Kashgar in China to Gwadar and shipped out from Gwadar to the Middle-East and Africa. Currently there are some 2000 Chinese personnel in Gwadar this number is projected to grow up to 500,000 by 2023. There is a geo-political shift happening in the world and Gwadar is at the heart of this. We're also currently running a crowdfunding campaign to help our operation produce more and better videos. The long-delayed $1.1bn sale of a 70 percent stake in Sri Lanka's Hambantota port, which straddles the world's busiest east-west shipping route, has been signed off in Colombo. Can Sri Lanka keep its worried neighbours on its side, while trying to play a bigger role in China's ambitious trade plans? Karnaphuli (Bangladesh): কর্ণফুলি Kôrnophuli; also spelt Karnafuli, the largest and most important river in Chittagong and the Chittagong Hill Tracts, is a 667-metre (2,188 ft) wide river in the south-eastern part of Bangladesh. Originating from the Lushai hills in Mizoram, India, it flows 270 kilometres (170 mi) southwest through Chittagong Hill Tracts and Chittagong into the Bay of Bengal. A large hydroelectric power plant using Karnaphuli river was built in the Kaptai region during the 1960s. The mouth of the river hosts Chittagong's sea port, the main port of Bangladesh. Chittagong City: Chittagong is situated on the banks of the Karnaphuli River between the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the Bay of Bengal. The city is a noteworthy seaside seaport city and monetary focus in southeastern Bangladesh. The Chittagong Metropolitan Area has a populace of more than 6.5 million, making it the second biggest city in Bangladesh. It is the capital of an eponymous locale and division. A water treatment plant has been set up by Chittagong Port Authority to source water from the Karnaphuli river for its uses. The plant will make the port self-reliant in its water needs Transportation:- The Government has awarded a contract to build a two lane tunnel underneath the Karnaphuli river to China Communication Construction Company (CCCC). This will be the first underwater tunnel in Bangladesh. CCCC will receive $706 million for its services with total costs expected to be over $1 billion Aquatic life:- The river is home to Ganges river dolphin, which is an endangered species. Hilsa used to be common in the river, but have nearly disappeared from the river due to pollution Kaptai dam:- Kaptai Lake on Karnaphuli River The Kaptai Dam is the location of the Karnafuli Hydroelectric Power Station, constructed in Kaptai in 1962 and the only hydro-electric power plant in the country. An earth-filled dam on the Karnaphuli River, the Kaptai Dam created the Kaptai Lake, which acts as the water reservoir for the hydropower station. The power plant produces a total of 230 megawatts of electricity. Pollution:- Like many rivers in Bangladesh, Karnaphuli is heavily polluted by agricultural runoff. Reducing the amount of oxygen available and harming aquatic life in the river.[8] In 2015, a train carrying oil crashed over a tributary of the river. The spill caused environmental degradation. Chittagong port and Ship land area

00:33
Port of Chittagong The Port of Chittagong (Bengali: চট্টগ্রাম বন্দর) is the largest seaport in Bangladesh, located by the estuary of the Karnaphuli River in Patenga, near the city of Chittagong. Historically, it is the most important port of Bangladesh and has been playing an essential part in the economic development of the country.[2][3] It is a deep water seaport dominated by trade in containerised manufactured products (especially garments, jute and jute goods, leather products, fertilizers and seafood), raw materials and to a lesser extent passengers. Window berthing system was introduced at the seaport on 6 August 2007, enabling the sea port to provide the arrival and departure times of all ships. Two berths at the port terminal are kept in reserve for emergency. In 2011, the port handled 43 million tonnes of cargo and 1.4 million tonnes of containers.[4] The port handled 1.5 million TEUs (twenty equivalent units) containers in 2010–11, up from 1.2 million TEUs in the previous year, according to the CPA Traffic Department. Port of Chittagong is ranked as world's 90th busiest port in the world in 2013.[5] History The history of Chittagong port dates back to the fourth century B.C. Malayan history chronicles the journey of the sailor Buddha Gupta from Chittagong to Malaya in the 4th century B.C.[6] The Periplus of the Erythraean Sea documents the existence of Chittagong port in the ancient times. The Arab traders considered Chittagong to be the delta of the Ganges. Chittagong port has been mentioned in the works of Ptolemy, Fa-hien, Hieu-en tsng, and Ibn Battuta.[7] This was an important port used by the traders from the Middle East, China, Turkey, Europe to trade with this part of the world. Arab traders who arrived in the 8th century played a pivotal role in the spread of Islam in Bengal.[8] During the 9th century the activities of the port increased tremendously as the Arab traders started using the port. They used to call the port "Samunda". The port was under their control at the time. In the 15th century the port served as an important place for the re-export of goods produced in China.[9] The 16th century saw the arrival of the Portuguese. The Arakan Kingdom provided permission to the Portuguese and used them as a buffer against Mughal Empire.[10] The Portuguese engaged in Piracy, Slavery and forced conversion in the region.[11] João da Silveira was the first Portuguese Captain to reach the port.[12] He arrived with his ship Lopo Soana in 1517. The Portuguese named the port "PORTO GRANDE" (a great Port ). The records show that the Porto Grande offered easy access and safe anchorage to ships of 20 feet draught. In 1552 De Barros described Chittagong as the "most famous and wealthy city in Bengal" due to the port of Chittagong which was responsible for all trade in the region.[13] Chittagong port was an vital port to the Arakan Kingdom. The Arakanese lost it to the Mughal empire in 1660s. The loss of the port reduced the fortunes of the Kingdom.[14] 19th century[edit] It remained a port during Moghul time. Later in early 19th century the British took control of the Chittagong port. The port of Chittagong became a natural outlet for the Northeastern regions of the then British-India that led to the enactment of Port Commissioner's Act of 1887. At that time the facilities of the port consisted of five wooden and one pontoon jetties. In the year 1889–90 the port handled exports totalling 125,000 tons.[15] There was an increase in trade between the port of Chittagong and Naraingunge.[16]

Cox's Bazar (Bengali: Koksbajar, Koksbazar or Kokshbajar) is a town, a fishing port and district headquarters in Bangladesh. The beach in Cox's Bazar is an unbroken 120 km (75 mi) sandy sea beach with a gentle slope, one of the world's longest. It is located 150 km (93 mi) south of the industrial port Chittagong. Cox's Bazar is also known by the name Panowa, whose literal translation means "yellow flower." Its other old name was "Palongkee". The modern Cox's Bazar derives its name from Captain Hiram Cox (died 1799), an officer of the British East India Company. Cox was appointed Superintendent of Palongkee outpost after Warren Hastings became Governor of Bengal. Captain Cox was specially mobilised to deal with a century-long conflict between Arakan refugees and local Rakhains. He embarked upon the task of rehabilitating refugees in the area and made significant progress. Captain Cox died in 1799 before he could finish his work. To commemorate his role in rehabilitation work, a market was established and named Cox's Bazar ("Cox's Market") after him. Today, Cox's Bazar is one of the most-visited tourist destinations in Bangladesh, though it is not a major international tourist destination. In 2013, the Bangladesh Government formed the Tourist Police unit to better protect local and foreign tourists, as well as to look after the nature and wildlife in the tourist spots of Cox's Bazar.

Beautiful Chittagong | চট্টগ্রাম | Beautiful Bangladesh | Visit Bangladesh The Port of Chittagong is the largest seaport in Bangladesh, located by the estuary of the Karnaphuli River in Patenga, near the city of Chittagong. It is a deep water seaport dominated by trade in containerized manufactured products (especially garments, jute and jute goods, leather products, fertilizers and seafood), raw materials and to a lesser extent passengers. It is one of the two main sea port of Bangladesh - most of the export and import of the country are handled via this port. Window berthing system was introduced at the seaport on August 6, 2007, enabling the sea port to provide the arrival and departure times of all ships. Two berths at the port terminal are kept in reserve for emergency. In 2011, the port handled 43 million tonnes of cargo and 1.4 million tonnes of containers.[2] The port handled 1.5 million TEUs (twenty equivalent units) containers in 2010-11, up from 1.2 million TEUs in the previous year, according to the CPA Traffic Department. Port of Chittagong is ranked as world's 90th busiest port in the world in 2017. Chittagong (Bengali: চট্টগ্রাম) is a major coastal seaport city and financial centre in southeastern Bangladesh. The Chittagong Metropolitan Area has a population of over 6.5 million, making it the second largest city in the country. The city is located on the banks of the Karnaphuli River between the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the Bay of Bengal. It was a prominent trading centre and hosted the first European colonial enclaves in Bengal, which were operated by the Portuguese in the 16th and 17th centuries. The district was ruled the Sultanate of Bengal, the Kingdom of Mrauk U and the Mughal Empire until the 18th century, at which point it was ceded to the British East India Company. During the Burma Campaign in World War II, the city was also a key base for Allied Forces. Modern Chittagong is a major hub of trade and industry. The Port of Chittagong is the largest international seaport on the eastern seaboard of the Bay of Bengal. The Chittagong Naval Area is the largest base of the Bangladesh Navy. Though despite having a high and growing urban per capita GDP in South Asia and being one of the fastest growing cities in the world. Chittagong is reputed as a relatively clean city, but still confronts substantial logistical and socioeconomic problems যদি আপনার কাছে একটুও ভালো লাগে তবে Like, Comment করবেন এবং বন্ধদের জন্য Share করবেন সবাইকে ধন্যবাদ youtube.com/rubel01674 facebook.com/shrbd rubelfeni.blogspot.com

Bangladesh gain new land 'Bangabandhu Island'

01:39
This island was formed gradually in the last one and half decades and notified after sea boundary demarcation. The island is 10 km long and 8 km wide. Currently this island is being forested with mangrove trees.Coast guard is vigilant to not to allow this island to do piracy or other illegal activities by criminal. The government has undertaken measures to start survey works for setting up a coast-guard base on the newly-emerged Bangabandhu Island. The base will help ensure safety of the vessels coming to and going out of the Mongla Port. Besides, local fishermen going to the Bay of Bengal for catching fish will get security benefits since they are victims of regular piracy across the Bay. Representatives comprising three members of the administration have visited the coastal belt recently to see for themselves the prevailing condition in some of the areas. The establishment of coast-guard base on the Bangabandhu Island at both eastern and southern sides of Dubla and Hiron points will strengthen the security arrangement for the vessels and fishermen, experts opined. Earlier, members of civil society and fishermen placed a strong demand to implement the project in the best interest of security at the coastal belt. More than 15 years back, an island like sandy place was noticed in the Bay at a distance of 120 nautical miles from Mongla. Gradually, many varieties of trees arriving from the upstream through high and low tides filled the island with vegetation. Later, trees and plants like sundari, banana, arum, nuts etc were noticed. With the passage of time, the growth of those multiplied in the new place. The size of the new island stands at 1.28 nautical miles in length and 1.2 nautical miles in width. The local fishermen started calling the island as Bangabandhu Island. Since then the incoming ships, both domestic and foreign, towards Mongla and fishermen in the sea have been demanding enforcement of adequate security measures in the newly-emerged island.

Rohingya Refugee Crisis and Socio-Economic Context of Bangladesh

05:52
The recent influx of Rohingya refugees has created pressure on the economy and overall security of the country. Bangladesh’s future development hinges on some critical projects in the Chittagong and CHT areas, especially, Chittagong port, SEZs and deep sea ports. A possible conflict with Myanmar can hamper Bangladesh’s efforts for integration with Southeast Asian countries. This current situation has increased the risk of external conflict. There is a risk of rise in military expenditure in Bangladesh, which can have implications for the development activities. There is a need for prudent diplomatic strategies and proper management of refugees, aid and security issues.
