A Beautiful Place For Sea Bathing- Cox's Bazar Beach, Bangladesh
Cox’s Bazar is the pride and joy for all Bangladeshi, Cox’s Bazar is lauded throughout the land as if it’s a contender for one of the natural wonders of the world. It is the longest continual natural seashore on the earth (125km), but a world wonder it isn’t. In fact, it’s not even the nicest beach in Bangladesh (the beaches on nearby St Martin’s Island and at Kuakata in Barisal division are far more scenic). However, Cox’s Bazar is the most developed of any holiday destination in Bangladesh and as such you’ll find tourist facilities that are better than anywhere outside Dhaka. Your travels in Cox'es Bazaar are getting the improved of you and you just fancy some home comforts and a bit of fresh air, consider swinging by for a couple of days.
Cox's Bazar/ Cox's Bazaar is a town, a fish port and district headquarters in Bangladesh. It is one of the world's longest uninterrupted natural sandy sea beaches. The beach in Cox's Bazar is an continuous 125 km sandy sea beach with a gentle slope. It is located 150 km south of the industrial port Chittagong. Cox’s Bazar is also known by the name Panowa, whose literal translation means "fair-haired flower." Its other old name was "Palongkee".
The modern Cox's Bazar derives its person's name from Captain Hiram Cox (died 1799), an officer serving in British India. An officer of the British East India Company, Captain Cox was appointed Superintendent of Palongkee outpost after Warren Hastings became Governor of Bengal. Captain Cox was specially mobilized to deal with a century-long conflict between Arakan refugees and local Rakhains. He embarked upon the mammoth task of rehabilitating refugees in the area and made significant progress. A premature bereavement took Captain Cox in 1799 before he could finish his work. To commemorate his role in rehabilitation work, a market was established and named Cox's Bazar ("Cox's Market") after him.
Cox's Bazar is one of the most-visited traveler destinations in Bangladesh. Recently a lot of good quality resorts and residential hotels are developed for the overseas tourists. In 2013, the Bangladesh Government formed the Tourist Police unit to better protect local and foreign tourists, as well as to look after the nature and wildlife in the tourist spots of Cox's Bazar.
