Better product definition with Lean UX and Design Thinking by Jeff Gothelf, Lean IT Summit 2014

36:13
Requirements-driven product definition is a sure-fire way to get 100% of the wrong product launched. The assumptions that requirements are based on are usually not accurate enough to determine the exact solution those requirements dictate. Instead, teams should focus on creating a series of hypotheses that define potential solutions to their business problem and then work together to learn which of these hypotheses are keepers and which ideas to kill. In this talk at the Lean IT Summit 2014, Jeff provides an overview of how to apply the ideas behind Lean UX and Design Thinking to project definition and planning. It's a Consumer-Driven World - What It Means for Your Business

02:17
Why do you need a consumer-driven supply chain? Today's consumers want the right price, the best quality, and they want it now! What does that mean for your business? Your business success - or failure - eventually depends on whether your end-consumers are satisfied. All businesses exist to eventually serve an end-consumer. Shouldn't your company be doing all of the right things to ensure success -- and the consumer's satisfaction? But few businesses are actually driven by what consumers actually want... ► Subscribe to our channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq1YT1kWKED0wsVdluDi3JA?sub_confirmation=1 Follow us online here: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/15575/ Website: http://www.onenetwork.com/ Blog: http://supplychainbeyond.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OneNetworkEnterprises/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/onenetwork

Model-Driven Work Management... the Important Bit of Enterprise Process Automation That Isn't Covered by BPMN TIBCO Work and resource management models provide a concise way to visualize work matching, routing, distribution, prioritization, scheduling, and authorization semantics as an overlay to the corporate directory. Large branch-style organizations such as retail banks pose a particular challenge to model-driven work and resource management due to their scale and dynamic nature. This presentation will introduce model-driven work and resource management, the challenges of large branch-style organizations, and how TIBCO is addressing these challenges. Roger King heads BPM Product Strategy and Product Management for TIBCO Software. Roger first cut his process automation teeth over twenty years ago whilst implementing workflow, image, and intelligent data capture solutions for EDS. Following his ten-year tenure at EDS he joined UK-based BPM vendor Staffware. Following the acquisition of Staffware by TIBCO, Roger became responsible for the re-envisioning and definition of a brand new lead product for TIBCO's BPM business, TIBCO ActiveMatrix® BPM. Roger has a BSc and PhD from the University of Wales, Cardiff, UK.

Lean Analytics: making products better

06:52
Analytics data provides a measurable way of looking at how a product is being used. According to Alistair Croll, analyst and co-author of Lean Analytics, the ever-increasing abundancy of data, combined with the relative ease of analysing that data, is "bringing analytics to the forefront". For Croll, the way we use analytics (or, metrics) needs streamlining in order to make the most of data. “We live in a world where we are inundated with information and the ability to make sense of that information is a survival skill in the 21st century.” – Alistair Croll, analyst and author Given the abundancy of statistics in the digital age, Croll stresses how we should only concentrate on the most relevant data. As the BBC's Amanda Dahl, delivery manager for myBBC, explains, it can be appealing to focus on the amount of hits your site receives but it is much more useful to know why users are visiting or what would improve their engagement; "It's very tempting to tout your vanity metrics... But it doesn't really help us with figuring out what our next iteration will be." An iterative approach is at the heart of Lean Analytics. This means firstly deciding on the "one metric that matters", as Croll puts it. This is the single metric that most needs improving in order to ensure a product's success. Once this is decided, a hypothesis can be made about how to improve that metric and an experiment set up to test it out. Then you measure the results, see whether you achieved what you set out to do, and this cycle can be repeated. “We do small iterative releases of new tweaks to the product and tiny changes.” – Jessica Siegel, digital analytics, BBC iPlayer "Our whole approach to analytics is that build, measure, learn cycle," Adam Bailin, digital analytics manager, BBC, explains, "particularly with products like iPlayer and iWonder where the analytics has been thought about at the very outset.” The key, according to Croll, is to pick metrics that when measured will change your behaviour. Jessica Siegel, responsible for digital analytics for BBC iPlayer, describes how the product team are able to make small tweaks and use analytics to review whether users’ engagement improves. “What makes it Lean is you use a little bit of data to inform your decision; you try something out. And in trying that out, you gain more data.” The future, according to Dahl, lies in using specifically tailored data to improve the most important metric for each BBC online product. Cait O’Riordan, VP of product at Shazam, stresses the need to be constantly on top of analytics, measuring data over time and identifying trends. “It’s something that you have to really live and breathe," she explains, "but actually the data is so exciting.” http://bit.ly/CoT_Analytics

Laszlo Bock on how Google is changing the nature of work

20:11
Learn more about Google's data-driven HR at rework.withgoogle.com Laszlo Bock, Senior Vice President of People Operations at Google, kicked off Google’s first-ever re:Work event by talking about the potential to make work better for people everywhere. This is a huge opportunity because we spend more time at work than we do anything else in our lifetime. What if we could improve the experience of work, even just a little, for everyone? Bock offered a glimpse into Google’s own approach. People often think working at Google is about bean bags, free food, and lava lamps, but it’s really about having a mission that matters – doing work that is meaningful and connected to something bigger. Google starts with the belief that people are good and will do the right thing. From there, it’s easy to give employees freedom, access to information, and autonomy, which allows them to go out and create amazing things. Just as Google’s product development is driven by user feedback and data, Google’s HR policies are informed by feedback and data. Google uses science, collects data, and runs experiments internally to determine how best to make employees as happy, healthy, and productive as possible. From dissecting the attributes that make a great manager to nudging employees to take advantage of the company’s 401(k) matching, Google uses robust, academic-quality analytics to drive HR decisions.

There may be people belonging to a product oriented company who define and deliver commercial products or you may work in an organization delivering IT solutions or you may have a background of domain experience or a tester who got into the role of a business analyst. Regards less of how any one comes into the role of Business analysis all competent business analyst need to have essential skill sets to make their business analysis job more effective and productive. The topic mentioned would focus on the essential skill sets that are required for a business analyst. In the current scenario rapidly changing market conditions are requiring companies to shorten the delivery life cycles and delivery value to customers in shorter spans of time and hence the companies have started looking at new ways of development process and so is the reason for a shift to agile way of development. In this context the role of business analyst has gained lot of importance and so the Session will also focus on the role of a business analyst in both plan driven and agile change driven approaches.

Growth hacking APIs What role do APIs play in your growth strategy

19:37
Vanessa Meyer - Context.io - 21/10/2014 There’s been lots of buzz in the tech startup space about “growth hacking” – what is it? how is it related to development? how is it related to marketing? At it’s core, growth hacking is about finding a strategy for growth within the parameters of scalability and replicability, driven by product and inspired by data. Growth hacking’s core is based in marketing but driven by product. Once the definition is clear, the question then becomes: without a UI to lean on, how does one “growth hack” an API? At last year’s Nordic API conference, Guillaume Balas from 3Scale presented several typologies of an API, namely API is the product, API projects the product, API promotes the product, and API powers the product. This presentation will elaborate on and reframe those typologies in the context of marketing and growth hacking of an API. We will examine the circumstances where an API is actually a growth hack in of itself, and where it is in need of growth hacking in order to make the business model behind it succeed. The presentation will use core concepts of strategic marketing – such as positioning, pricing, targeting, promotion, product and distribution – to create a framework for either growth hacking an API or developing an API as a key tactic in a growth strategy. The presentation was recorded at the 2014 Platform Summit in Stockholm, Nordic APIs second annual conference. Find out more at http://nordicapis.com/

Luther and the Protestant Reformation: Crash Course World History #218

In which John Green teaches you about the Protestant Reformation. Prior to the Protestant Reformation, pretty much everyone in Europe was a Roman Catholic. Not to get all great man, but Martin Luther changed all that. Martin Luther didn't like the corruption he saw in the church, especially the sale of indulgences, so he left the church and started his own. And it caught on! And it really did kind of change the world. The changes increased literacy and education, and some even say the Protestant Reformation was the beginning of Capitalism in Europe. RV Tire Age, Care & Replacement

08:58
Do RV tires really have to be replaced every 5, 6 or 7 years? How can you tell how old your tires are? How can you make them last as long as possible? Here's how to get the most life and use out of your RV tires. Unlike car tires, which are usually replaced because the treads are worn out, RVs are often driven far fewer miles each year. Most RV tires have to be replaced due to age long before the tread is worn out and our tires are no exception. Even though there’s plenty of tread left, it’s almost time for new rubber. We’ll be replacing our original tires soon, because this spring, our motorhome will be 10 years old. Now before you start e-mailing to tell us that RV tires can’t be used for more than 5 or 6 or 7 years, watch this entire video. We’ll show you how we've safely driven on the same tires for nearly a decade. Large 5th wheels may need to replace tires as early as 3 to 5 years. Check with your manufacturer to be sure. The piano music is my own performance of Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag from 1899. Getting Your Niche Right with Eben Pagan

Click here for your FREE training program from Eben: http://goo.gl/wbKOAd SUBSCRIBE http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=getaltitude Getting your niche right. I think that most business failure comes down to getting the market wrong. Your market is the combination of your target customers, and the products and services that you're going to sell. This combination of people who have money, that they then trade for products and services that they need - creating this flow of value back and forth - this is a market. Your customer + your product = your market. You can control who you choose to market to. You can choose your target audience and you can choose what to market. Your niche is such a critical element of your business because it's the beginning of this equation. If you get the niche wrong nothing can help you. If you get the niche right it makes everything else easy. When you target the right niche you set yourself up to win beforehand. Let's talk about Niche Psychology and the psychology of targeting a successful niche. In a conversation that I had with my good friend John Carlton, he told me something that stuck with me ever since. He said the hardest thing to get the human animal to do is to take out their wallet and give you their money. Because their money represents all the time and effort and the energy expended in their life. So learning the art of how to get the human animal to take out its wallet and give you money in exchange for the valuable products and services that you offer is really a skill that's worth cultivating. A mistake that a lot of folks make as they are targeting their niche is choosing a niche that sounds ""fun"" to them. If you choose a niche that just sounds fun or interesting you're probably not going to be talking to people who are highly motivated and who are going to be likely to take out their wallet and trade you the money that's inside of it for what it is that you're offering. If you want the highest chance of making money selling information you must get psychology on your side. Niche psychology is about finding where people are being triggered emotionally. And when someone's triggered emotionally then they're directed to go find solutions to their needs. If a person isn't triggered emotionally, then they are not motivated to go out and solve their problem. If you want to get a person to pay you for your knowledge then identify where they are emotionally triggered and driven to find a solution. And this leads us to our next idea which is that niches are actually needs. Stop thinking in niches and start thinking in needs. We're thinking about needs that people have that drive them to take action. When you start basing all of your niche and your product decisions on needs that people are having, you dramatically increase your chances of success. Another quote that I say often goes like this... Look for customers who are looking for you. When you stop thinking in niches and you start thinking in needs, now you're starting to look for people who are looking for you. Before a person has gotten to the point where they're so activated and so motivated that they're out looking for a solution, it's very hard to convince them to trade their money for what it is that you're selling. In fact, you have to do a lot of selling and persuasion and talking them into it and that's a hard game. And it's not one that works for very many professionals or business people at all. So when you look for people who are looking for you, you go inside your mind and you start asking the question, "what is the solution that people are already looking for?" You start thinking about where people are at when they've gotten themselves to the point where they are activated, they're motivated, they've started looking. And you start thinking about where they're looking and what they're searching for and how they're looking to find a solution. By the way this is one of the reasons why I love search engine marketing so much.. both paper click and SEO... because by definition, people who are online, looking at a search engine, typing in a search term, are looking for a solution. I think that search marketing and search engine marketing whether again its paper click or it's SEO is one of the greatest tool that's ever been developed for market testing and for doing research. You can go online right now and I you can use Google's free set of tools that allow you see how many people are searching for a particular topic. To see the power of this you might pause the video right now, go to Google, type in "Google keyword tool" and just start playing around with it typing various search terms and phrases. And you'll get a feel for how many people are searching for that particular phrase. So search engine marketing is a very powerful tool for helping you target a successful niche. Look for customers who are looking for you.

Heel-O-Matic Ground-Driven Team Roping Dummy

00:57
Best For: Headers and heelers, families who rope together Key Feature: Belt-driven pulley system for variable hopping speed adjustments Practice timing with patented Heel-O-Matic Hop. Easy-to-change variable pulley system means the faster you pull, the faster the hop - Just like in a real run. Heel O Matic's most popular model. Assembled Unit: 50"X44"X46" Horns: 21" Long WEIGHT: Approximately 175 lbs The TRAINER is durable, weather-resistant, virtually maintenance free, and comes with a full 1 year mechanical warranty. Also includes a 14 day 100% money back guarantee Flat Dropship rate of $195 from Heel-O-Matic in the lower 48 states The Ground Driven TRAINER is the most popular roping practice machine from Heel O Matic. Virtually maintenance free, this machine provides the realistic "Heel-O-Matic Hop" that is generated by a variable pulley system. The faster the run, the faster the hop - just like in a real run. No battery, motor, solar panel or electrical wiring to worry about. This translates to fewer parts, lower maintenance and easier assembly. The TRAINER's pulley system has variable settings that allow you to customize your Heel-O-Matic Hop. Choose a slower hop speed at a higher pull speed, or a faster hop at a slower pull speed. You can select-and easily change-this ratio to meet your practice needs. Heel O Matic has added mechanical tension arms to maintain steady belt tension and we've packed and sealed our shaft bearings to reduce friction and increase the life of your machine. Each TRAINER is also equipped with a turning head, collapsible horns as well as a back leg dally kit to let heelers practice their hard hitsand accuracy. Horns are tipped to eliminate hang-ups and provide a smoother release. A new, additional spring in the head produces a snappy, quick return anda steady position when being pulled. Competitive Comparisons The Heel-O-Matic hop. Observing the natural movement of steers reveals that their hips and rear legs move in a rhythmic, circular pattern. This same pattern has been carefully simulated to provide the most accurate movement available for your training. If you study the movement of the "stride"e of other brands, you'll see that the rear legs simply swing back and forth (from front to back). We feel this can cause a false sense of delivery, and this type of roping machine can't "hop" over the top strand of your loop. The compact length of the TRAINER frame produces best maneuverability of any roping practice machine available. This means tighter turns and more realistic run patterns. Be sure to note the frame length of competitive products. A long frame can only turn in a larger arc: a physics law that live cattle rarely follow! The majority of the TRAINER's weight is carried on the skids, not the tires. This produces a smoother pull and less compaction in your arena. Some competitive products carry the majority of their weight on a single tire, resulting in a bouncing, unrealistic run. Heel-OMatic prides itself on producing the ost life0like roping dummy on the market. Be sure to compare and contrast the neck length of the TRAINER to other competitive products.

Why PTO driven pellets mill is your choice for pellets production?

00:29
PTO wood pellet mill is a kind of pellet mill with power-take-off design, which will be connected and powered by a tractor. The small PTO pellet mill is popular for farm users. Why PTO driven pellets mill is your choice for pellets production? See the following reasons. 1. Lower price: A PTO pellet mill is dedicated designed for farm owners or farmer who has a tractor and being accessible to some amount of raw materials which can be made into pellets. As no engine is equipped with PTO pellet mill, the price is much less than other types of pellet mill. 2. Wide application :Sawdust, shavings, rice husk, cotton stalk, cotton seed skins, weeds and crop stalks and other plant wastes can all be pelletized into high quality pellets by using the PTO driven wood pellet machine. The pellets made can be used for stove, furnace and other equipments. 3. Easy use: The PTO pellet mill is available to be connected with any engines, such as electric engines, diesel engines, gasoline engine, even tractors, which makes it more practical and convenient for pellet production and free from place and energy limitation. Also the design of PTO pellet machine can be customized to fit your power take off system. 4. Capacity: the PTO pellet machines have relatively high working efficiency because of the strong power source and at the mean time it consumes lower energy. The productivity of PTO pellet mill ranges from 40 to 880lbs/h, varying with the power supply. 5. Mobility: because of the power-take-off design, the PTO pellet mill is smaller in volume and lighter in weight comparing with other pellet mills. Put it anywhere with ease. 6. Speed: the PTO pellet machine itself has no speed control device so the controlling of the speed relies on the external system such as the external power engine and the feed speeding. When it is connected with the tractor, the speed of a PTO pellet mill is solely governed by the feeding speed which needs more attention. 7. Security: when a PTO pellet mill is connected with the tractors, the protective cover is recommended. And while running, the operator needs to obey the operation instructions for the sake of safety.
