-- NYSE Euronext (NYX) today unveiled a new brand identity that underscores the company's growing role in unlocking the potential of its global community. The new look was unveiled today across its exchanges and other locations around the world as well as online. "Our new branding evokes an organization with both a strong vision and rich heritage, positioned to pursue our growth strategy: empowering the world's capital market community to innovate and collaborate," said Marisa Ricciardi, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Marketing. "NYSE Euronext has transformed dramatically over the course of the last five years, and we sought to better represent our position today and direction for the future." The new icon -- an abstract representation of the globe -- conveys the dynamism of NYSE Euronext's markets, the connectedness of its community and the diversity of its people. Multiple color bars represent its broad array of products, geographies and cultures. The green and blue color palette reflects growth and optimism; the lighter hues convey the company's commitment to transparency, and the bolder colors recall its storied historical role in developing the world economy. NYSE Euronext has literally outgrown its previous icon -- two portals symbolizing the merger of NYSE Group and Euronext in 2007. Development of the new logo and look began some time ago and was put on hold during the NYSE Euronext-Deutsche Börse merger discussions. Now NYSE Euronext is moving on, enabling customers to reach across oceans and asset classes, a strategy most recently articulated at the company's Investor Day last month. "We have always connected companies, capital and ideas," Ricciardi added. "NYSE Euronext builds active connections across the largest, most diverse business community -- powering new trading platforms, creating new products and services, and connecting the world's most important capital markets to unlock potential throughout the world." The greens of the new look differentiate NYSE Euronext from the logos of other exchange groups as well as the banks and broker dealers that are both customers and competitors. The new fonts -- Akko, DIN and Calibri -- have been selected to be more environmentally friendly, known for using little ink and paper. The new look also reflects the vibrant energy and global composition of NYSE Euronext's workforce. The company's employees have a strong record of community engagement, through volunteering time and resources to charitable organizations around the world as well as working the community strategy every day through the company's "ICE-T" values: Innovating with Purpose; Collaborating Productively; Engaging with Clients; and Thinking Broadly.

The university's official name remains The University of Western Ontario, and will continue to appear as such on diplomas and official documents. But for communication, marketing and web purposes, Western University -- or, at times, simply Western -- will be the university's new name. Western is a complex organization with multiple identities and symbols, which sometimes hinders our ability to communicate the impact of the University as a whole -- we can do this better From June to December 2011, we involved faculty, staff, students and alumni in a discussion about Western's visual identity - the logos and words we use to describe the University. We conducted online and in-person surveys, workshops and individual interviews with close to 5,000 alumni, donors and friends, more than 3,700 students and approximately 2,000 faculty and staff members. We are grateful you took the time to respond and share your opinions. Without your feedback and engagement, we would not have the comprehensive perspective we require. This new identity will be rolled-out over the next 12 months as new communication materials are produced, such as our website, stationary and collateral materials. It's a really important aspect of developing the voice of your business as well as how to attract your ideal clients through likability. But I realized that even though we discuss ways to convey personality, we haven't discussed exactly how to determine what it is for your particular brand. Every brand personality is going to be vastly different. It has a lot to do with your business goals, the people within your organization, and how customers want to connect with you. So in today's video, I'm giving you some direction on how to navigate this task which will not only help your network build an emotional connection but help you understand how you can do that. What are you business goals? You're not going to all this trouble for nothing. Keeping your business goals in mind is always important because everything you do should be a step in that direction. But it's also a good place to start of how to define the overall theme of your presence. Who is the personal connection? Every brand needs to have an individual that people can connect with. It may not be as blatant as the face of weekly vlogs on a website, but it might just be the person who responds to tweets and people know they can count on. People connect with people, not logos. So take into consideration the person you're putting at the forefront of connecting with your audience and whether their personality might be playing into your brand's. What topics are fair game for your brand? You can't be all business all the time. If you want to stay focused on a general theme, that makes a ton of sense. But that doesn't mean you can't address things on a fun level that you may not have ever talked about professionally but can keep conversation light with your network in between. Great example. Absolutely anyone that talks about any type of food for a living could definitely make fun of the new holiday flavored Pringles. Unless you have site that promotes such a thing (which I don't hate on) this would be my #1 priority now to tweet and laugh about with followers. Get an idea of the playfulness that you want your brand to convey and make it policy for your community manager (even if that's you). It will remind you that even though you want to pimp out those blog posts and coupons, you need to have a little fun, too. How do you build your brand personality? Triple S, ep. 69

If you KNOW what makes the MOST effective logo, you can help guide your designer to create the VERY best logo for your organization People make immediate decisions about people and things, like your businesses, based upon their FIRST IMPRESSIONS. If the first thing that they see about your business is collateral material with a logo that is well...Boring, bland or unimaginative, amateurish, low quality....You get the picture. One of the key characteristics of a trademark is to distinguish YOUR business from all other companies. An obvious name and logo will give the implication that your company is NO DIFFERENT than any other business! What do I mean by an "OBVIOUS" logo"? For instance an initial mark that uses plain uninteresting letters with no distinctiveness. Or a symbols of a logo that appears to use clipart or a generic little picture that looks like everything else. Don't fall into the trap of obvious or generic! If you already have a logo that is lacking creativity its never too late to look IMPRESSIVE instead of ORDINARY! Your clients don't want ordinary service or ordinary products...So don't tell them...by first impression...through your logo...That Ordinary is what you offer! Fist Impressions are Everything!
