10 of the Most Popular Kitchen Styles

02:51
http://kitchencabinetvalue.com 10 of the most popular kitchen styles. Kitchen Cabinet Value 586-580-9436. Many homeowners are surprised to discover so many kitchen styles when they visit a home improvement store or a cabinet shop. The great variety and the number of available kitchen styles can be overwhelming. This variety, however, also ensures that every homeowner can find a kitchen style to their personal taste. Here are ten of the most popular kitchen styles: Antique Kitchen Style Old wood, aged paints and finishes, hardwood floors, and kitchen cabinet styles that look like old furniture are used to create this look. Contemporary Kitchen Style Contemporary kitchen cabinets are generally composed of minimal ornamentation and flat surfaces. Most materials in contemporary kitchen designs are man-made, including metal, plastic, concrete, glass, and recycled materials. Country Kitchen Style Painted and glazed cabinets, farmhouse sinks, beadboard panels, and open shelving are trademarks of country kitchen designs. Wide-planked wood floors, antique brass hardware, knotty pine furniture, and antique knick-knacks all contribute to the casual atmosphere of the country kitchen. European Kitchen Style European kitchens are minimalistic, functional and feature contemporary styling and an industrial look. European kitchen design avoids excess ornamentation. Materials used in European kitchen designs include plastic, metal, concrete, and glass. French Kitchen Style French kitchens have the character of rural France and use natural materials and earth tones. Wide-planked wood floors, antique brass hardware, stoneware, terracotta, wrought iron, fabric, and copper all contribute to mimicking the atmosphere of the French country lifestyle. Gourmet Kitchen Style A gourmet kitchen is usually situated around the cooking surface. The layout and measurements are critical in gourmet kitchen designs. The distances between the refrigerator, sink, and cooktop, known as the work triangle, should be spaced four to nine feet apart. Aisles and walkways should be 42-48 inches wide. Italian Kitchen Style Wood cabinets, natural stone surfaces, and natural wood tones comprise the Italian kitchen. Traditional Italian pots and pans can be displayed for aesthetic appeal and easy access. Bold colors are often part of the décor. Mexican Kitchen Style Lively, dramatic colors, to reflect the vibrant character of the heritage and culture of Mexico, are typically chosen. Granite is the best choice for countertops. Multicolored talavera tiles can bring an authentic look. For flooring, consider the rustic beauty of terracotta tiles or wide-planked wood to add warmth and natural beauty to the room. Mission Kitchen Style The term mission kitchens refers to several historic styles, but most people understand it to be referring to the Craftsman and Stickley style of furniture. Proper kitchen lighting is critical for mission style kitchens. Avoid recessed lights; consider light fixtures in amber tones made of bronze, wood, or stained glass. Shaker Kitchen Style Utilitarian designs, tapered posts, flat paneled doors, and sturdy construction are trademarks of Shaker kitchens. The style features Shaker door styles, which are flat paneled with flat square frames. Shaker cabinets are usually crafted with local American woods including ash, birch, cherry, hickory, maple or quarter-sawn oak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY1gF-bcddo This video was created by: Kitchen Cabinet Value 20504 Hall Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038 (586) 228-3262 Google Places: http://g.co/maps/ub2fb

10:40
For more information www.sengadesigns.com Home of the Gardening Gourmets - watch our TV pilot called the Garden Gourmets (google: senga lindsay garden gourmets) and tell us what you think! Last September my husband and I went to Provence. What couldn't be better than travelling through the countryside, eating French cuisine and sipping wine from local vineyards? Well the answer was a visit to a Potager Garden , designed, maintained and harvested by a French winery with its own restaurant. Winner of the 2009 Best new French Garden in France and located in Provence this garden is horticulturalist and chef's delight. Two acres devoted to herbs, vegetable crops and lots of espaliered fruit trees all set in a potager style garden. This is the french style for creating a kitchen garden that appeals to the visual as well as culinary senses. Flowers, formal boxwood hedging and ornamentation are all woven into this style. Vegetable gardens don't have to be relegated to the bottom of the yard or behind a hedge. See how you can create your own edible piece of paradise as Senga shows you how to design a Potager Garden.

A Kitchen That Talks? This One Teaches You French

04:01
This is the VOA Special English Technology Report , from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish A "talking kitchen" teaches students how to cook French and speak French. Researchers at New Castle University in Britain have developed the French Digital Kitchen. Professors Paul Seedhouse and Patrick Olivier led the project. Professor Seedhouse says it works like a satellite navigation system in a car. "The sat nav speaks to you and it tells you, for example, to turn left. And if you turn left then it continues with the program. If, for example, you turn right, then it's a mistake, so it loops back and it gives you further instructions."The kitchen equipment and tools use motion sensor technology similar to the Nintendo Wii game system. The sensors help a computer guide the students through instructions in French. "The system can tell whether you've done what you were asked to do or not. So let's say, for example, the system tells you to take some butter and cut it with a knife ... The sensor in the knife not only knows that the knife is moving, but it also knows what motion the knife is making."Students can ask the computer to repeat the instructions or translate them into English. There are vocabulary lessons before and after the cooking.Professor Seedhouse became interested in the idea after he visited a talking kitchen designed for a different purpose. "It was actually for communicating with people who suffer from dementia ... It can tell them, for example, that they've left the oven on." He says the French Digital Kitchen turns the process of learning language into a real-life experience. But the idea -- known as task-based language learning -- required a few changes as the researchers were designing the system. For example, if they had a sink full of water, as soon as people finished cooking with an instrument, they would throw it into the water. "And for us that's deadly because the digital sensors were immediately ruined."The system could be available for sale by the end of twenty twelve. Adding the technology to a new kitchen could add an estimated ten to twenty percent to the building costs. The system could also be added to an existing kitchen. The researchers are also developing portable versions. And the European Union has given them money to begin programs in six other languages, including English, Italian and Spanish. For VOA Special English, I'm Carolyn Presutti. You can find links to videos about the talking kitchen at voaspecialenglish.com. (Adapted from a radio program broadcast 31Oct2011)

The Best Homemade French Fries - Crispy.

06:45
The Best Homemade French Fries - Crispy. These French Fries are simply " the best ", crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. Bet you can not eat just one.. Enjoy .. :) I have tried many way's to make my fries more tasty and crunchy and I finally found that it works best in a two stage process. The first frying is the actual cooking process that brings the potatoes up to the cooked stage for about 10 mins. Then they are removed to a cooling bowl to cool down to room temperature. When ready, you should increase the oil in the deep fryer to max and in goes the fries for about 2 mins., but keep an eye on them, for this stage goes super fast. So after all this, you get a super fry with all the taste locked in and the best crunch of you life. I hope you enjoy them Why do I fry it twice? If you take a potato, cut it into pieces, and simply fry it in oil, it will not develop a nice, crispy texture. Instead, only a thin, delicate crust will develop, and the water from the inside of the potato will quickly soften that crust, removing any crispness, and making it mushy. Two stages of frying are required for the crispness to last. First is a low-temperature frying, which allows the starch in the granules from the outermost layers of the potato pieces to leak out, dissolve, and form a glue, which strengthens the external wall of the potato pieces, so that a strong crust can form. This strong crust will not weaken from the moisture inside the potato when it undergoes the second stage of cooking, high-temperature frying. The high-temperature frying allows the surface browning reactions to take place, creating greater depth of flavor, and crispness. .............. German Style Fried Potatoes (Bratkartoffeln) - The Punkrock-Kitchen (even Punks have a good taste)

07:57
Ingredients I was using in this video: 800g Potatoes (Maris Piper) 4 Rasher of Smoked Bacon 1 White Onion 2 Cloves Garlic Maldon Sea Salt Black Pepper, freshly ground Olive Oil Method: First peel the potatoes and cut them into thick slices. Add the potato-slices to a pot and rinse them for about 5 minutes under cold running water to get rid off as much excess starch as possible. Bring a large pot with salted water to the boil, add your potato-slices and cook until tender. Meanwhile, cut your bacon into chunks and finely dice your onion. Fry your bacon in a pan without any oil on a medium low heat. You want to render out the fat, but not to crispen up the bacon. When the fat is rendered out, add your onions and fry until soft. Crush in your garlic and add your potatoes, season with salt and pepper and fry until golden brown. Last but not least crack in the egg and fry until everything is crispy and golden brown. ================== Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/MadMacTennents Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ThePunkrockKitchen eMail : [email protected]

How to Use a French Press | Perfect Coffee

04:15
Watch more How to Make the Best Coffee videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/494742-How-to-Use-a-French-Press-Perfect-Coffee My name is Mike Jones, and I'm a barista at Third Rail Coffee right by Washington Square Park in New York City. I'm going to teach you some basic coffee-making skills. I'm going to show you how to make a French press. First there's a few things you're going to need. You're going to need some fresh coffee, preferably whole bean in which case you'll also need a grinder. You'll need a timer and then you'll also need the French press. So the first thing you're going to do is weigh out the beans. I like to use 25 grams of coffee for this size French press. Now if you don't have a scale, you can also just do three rounded scoops. So you can go ahead and grind this coffee. So this is ground medium coarse. You can play around with the grind setting after making it a couple of times. If it's tasting too bitter and too strong, you might be using a little bit too fine of a grind. And if it's a little bit watery and weak, then it might be too coarse. So you take the French press, and you're going to want to preheat it. You can either take water off a boil, have a nice water tower here. Then you let that sit for a while so it gets up to heat. Alright, so after the French press is preheated, you want to dry it out then add the grounds. Now again, I definitely recommend getting a scale, it just makes brewing coffee easier. But if you don't have one, you just want to use about 12 and a half ounces of water for this size. So I'm going to go ahead and add the water to the French press. The first amount I'm going to add is just enough to soak the grounds at the bottom of the press. So adding that in... so just that much water there. And then just stir it around to incorporate all the grounds with the water and start the timer. And you actually just let that sit there for 30 seconds. I would also recommend covering it when you're not doing anything to keep the heat intact. Alright, after 30 seconds you're going to add the rest of the water. Now this is either 12 and a half ounces or 400 grams of water. Once you've added all of that, just give it another gentle stir. And you put the plunger on and then you're going to let that sit until 3 and a half minutes. So after 3 and a half minutes you're going to press the plunger down. And this is another way you can tell if you've ground too coarse or too fine. If it goes without any resistance, it's going to be too coarse. And then if you have a really difficult time pressing down it's going to be too fine. Then I recommend decanting the French press before serving, because if you leave it sitting there it will actually keep extracting and end up tasting bitter. So once you've done that, you can just let it cool down and it's ready to serve.

So I make Coquille St. Jacques, or scallops in puff pastry, served with sauteed vegetables and a rich beurre blanc sauce. I also make a potato gallet and sauteed broccolini as side dishes. I completed the dish ahead of time, even despite a mess up on the initial batch of puff pastry (lost track of the timing). I even had tasters to provide their commentary on this dish. This was a fun challenge and I look forward to completing other cooking challenges.

Falour, B.S., M.B.A. all rights reserved cutecatfaith.com Dailymotion: LisaFalour YouTube: CUTECATFAITH, SLOBOMOTION I've written two cooking columns, been a cook and a live-in servant in the USA, and a chef's assistant here in Paris, France. I moved to France in 1994 and get a lot of questions about food habits here. I was suprised when I moved here -- Parisian cuisine was not what I'd expected! The cuisine of France does vary from region to region, but there are some general rules and trends I've noticed. I "ate as an American does" when I moved here, and gained weight. I am not particularly fond of Parisian cuisine, but love most of the regional styles and dishes. Whatever you think might go on here cooking-wise, there are not a lot of sauces, complicated dishes, heavy spices. No one eats cheese fondue (raclette), onion soup or snails unless they are tourists! We saw a place near Place Monge in Paris recently with a sign, in English, saying FRENCH FOOD. Obviously set up for the tourists, and not at all authentic! Cheese, bread and meat are quite sacred here, as is fat. They do not appreciate cooking with cheese or bread, nor do they like complex meat dishes (in general). Fat is favored and food products boast high fat content and are allowed to charge more for it! Pork is a staple food in France. Only recently is it possible to try to go vegetarian here, easily. Be prepared if you visit. France is a fascinating country to visit, but Paris is a particularly tough nut to crack. Most of the French still do not speak a word of English. You may need a planned itinerary and some help here, for business and pleasure. I have a website. French meals are three times per day, with a snack at 4 pm (usually just a small fruit, often shared). No beverages usually, meals served in courses, chewed thoughtfully, eaten slowly, and neve discuss business or serious things until the cheese course!
