Yellow-Bellied Sea Snake
The Yellow-Bellied Sea Snake or Pelagic Sea Snake is a true sea snake and can reach lengths of over two feet long. They don't lay eggs, so the young develop inside their mother. They have neurotoxic venom that they use to hunt their fish prey. They are entirely pelagic, meaning that they live in the open ocean or the top layers of the sea. They are found in coastal waters in the Pacific and Indian Ocean, it is also the only sea snake to reach Hawaii. [No Copyright Infringement Intended]

The banded snake krait (Laticauda colubrina) videotaped feeding on an eel (Gymnothorax sp.) in Fiji. Location was a patch reef off Pacific Harbour at a depth of about 30'. The krait had already killed the eel and was swallowing it when my wife, Marj Awai, found it. Bruce Carlson video. [taxonomy:binomial=Laticauda colubrina]

Girl Being Bitten by Aggressive Water Snakes
I have a crazy (some may say insane) fascination for reptiles and amphibians, but mainly for snakes. For two weeks out of the year, the Erie Water Snakes are more than abundant on the shores of Lake Erie and the Erie Islands. There is nothing I like better than to go catch them, admire them, and release them. People don't usually understand what I mean when I say my favorite thing to do in the world is to go catch snakes...so here is a taste of what I do! Just for the record....these are not venomous.

The sea snake, Hydrophiinae
Hydrophiinae, commonly known as sea snakes, are venomous elapid snakes inhabiting in marine environments for most of their lives. Except for the genus Laticauda, sea snakes are adapted to fully aquatic life and are unable to move on land. They are found in warm coastal waters from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific. Sea snakes have an eel-like appearance, having paddle-like tails. Many have laterally compressed bodies as well. They do not gills like fish and must surface regularly to breathe. The majority of adult hydrophiinae species grow between 120-150 around 4 to 5 feet with the largest, Hydrophis spiralis, reaching a maximum of 3m. Sea Snake Catcher
http://www.wildernessisland.com.au/ - It's not every day you catch a snake instead of a fish. This is a sea snake that was accidentally caught while we were out fishing one day. Unfortunately they sometimes take a bait that is intended for a fish. They can be a little tricky to get off the hook sometimes as they are a bit annoyed and sea snakes are 10 times more deadly than their land based cousins. We got this one off safely though and returned him to the water none the worse off. Harry helps out one of the boys with his unwanted catch.

Cave diving on Phi Phi island with the instructors/legends of Phi Phi's dive centers. Cave entrance is around 16 meters and follows a small passage until you reach a huge opening filled with stalactites, stalagmites and a honeycomb of separate small passages and underwater caverns still left for the experienced diver to explore! All divers in the video were all experienced instructors. Although highly venomous, most Sea Snakes have a placid disposition. It is estimated that 75-80% of Sea Snake bites are "blank" non-productive bites meaning envenomation does not occur. Only a few Sea Snake attacks on humans resulting in death have been recorded on divers who have disturbed nesting areas. Sea Snake venom is Neurotoxic (affecting the nervous system) classified in the group Proteroglypha and sometimes Myotoxins (affecting skeletal muscles) with a fatal dose being about 1.5 milligrams. Most Sea Snakes produce an average of 10-15 mg of venom so they should always be approached with caution as this venom is 10x more lethal than the venom of the landbased Rattlesnake or Africa's deadly Black Mamba.
