ULTIMATE FASHION HISTORY: The Italian (and Spanish) Renaissance

23:03
In this episode of The Ultimate Fashion History, we will look at fashion in The Italian Renaissance, starting with The Quattrocento and moving to the Cinquecento, but we'll also take a trip to the Spanish and Portuguese royal courts of the 1500s and grapple with some theories as to why Court Attire (and hair) was so weird. Enjoy!

500 years of Medieval Fashion

06:22
A rough guide to female fashions from about 9th to the end of the 15th century. This is a very brief and generic outline, it does not represent all the styles, social status or local varieties - would take ages ( !), and although I do have quite a wardrobe, it is not as extensive - so I had to make do with whatever I happened to have in my closet! I hope it will provide at least a vague basis for future research for those who are new to the era! All the clothing made by us - some of this styles ( and indeed, some of the items shown, are available in our online shop! www.priorattire.co.uk Thank you for watching!

14:30
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLM4S2hGZDSE7VbhJJWRIN3dfpAnTfFk11 First broadcast 15 Nov 2007. Series in which Joseph Leo Koerner argues that the Renaissance in Northern Europe - more so than its Italian counterpart - laid the foundations of modern art. In the early 15th century, the remarkable oil paintings of Flemish artist Jan Van Eyck transformed a lowly craft into the supreme art and began an image revolution that would change art forever.

Italian Renaissance vs. Northern Renaissance (AP European History)

06:16
http://www.tomrichey.net/writing-clinic This is a brief tutorial video designed to show AP Euro students how to construct an argument comparing the Italian Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance is typically characterized as secular and individualistic, while the Northern Renaissance is seen as more Christian and socially-oriented. As all historical claims must be supported by evidence, I use Machiavelli's The Prince and Thomas More's Utopia to contrast the two Renaissance movements. And don't forget to note what they have in common! Although the Italian Humanists and Northern Humanists differed in their approach and philosophy, they were all inspired by humanistic (classical) studies. With this approach, you should be set up to score at least half the points on your AP Euro LEQ (Long Essay Question) if not more! The Renaissance: Was it a Thing? - Crash Course World History #22

11:33
In which John Green teaches you about the European Renaissance. European learning changed the world in the 15th and 16th century, but was it a cultural revolution, or an evolution? We'd argue that any cultural shift that occurs over a couple of hundred years isn't too overwhelming to the people who live through it. In retrospect though, the cultural bloom in Europe during this time was pretty impressive. In addition to investigating what caused the Renaissance and who benefitted from the changes that occurred, John will tell you just how the Ninja Turtles got mixed up in all this. One of the most asked question is about the layers we wear at the events - not only Victorian but medieval, Stuart etc. Last weekend at an event we were asked about it so often that we decided to shoot an impromptu video on dressing up a late medieval lady - more centuries to come in time :-) credits to all the makers etc shown at the end of the video! THE ULTIMATE FASHION HISTORY: Dark Age Europe

21:46
Fashion is Dark Age Europe was not perhaps at its height, but what The Anglo-Saxons may have lacked in their simple tunics, they more than made up for with their gorgeous gold and bronze cloisonne. Yet it was Charlemagne and The Carolingian Renaissance that put Western Europe of the fashion map in The Dark Ages, and costume of the Carolingians remains amongst fashion's most sumptuous! Enjoy.

THE ULTIMATE FASHION HISTORY: Tudor Fashion

10:20
The Ultimate Fashion History is breaking down The Renaissance into shorter, bite-sized segments, and here we have that distinctive Tudor style. For both women and men, Tudor attire is marked by its reliance on geometry (triangles for women, rectangles for men) and its unique silhouette (which we we dissect here) is so different to what was happening in mainland Europe that it almost echoes England's break from the Papacy! Enjoy.

Creating a Renaissance Dress

03:24
UPEI History Honours student Alison Loney recently created a Renaissance era dress as part of her Honours thesis. The dress—which consists of 13 different pieces—is made from more than 30 yards of fabric, took about 320 hours to complete, and weighs over 15 pounds. Hair History: 15th Century | Early Renaissance

06:46
In this video I share with you how to create a high class hairstyle inspired by 15th century fashion, also known as early Renaissance. The natural loose 15th century style was defined by soft braids, waves and hair adornments. All throughout Europe the fashion was to wear the hair in braids coiled around the head. A Tudor Costume

05:20
A little different for my channel, but I hope it is enjoyable nonetheless! This video shows the layers, and the process of getting into the layers, of Tudor dress. More information linked below! This was my first foray into tudor fashion. Because of this my ensemble definitely isn't the most historically accurate or well assembled but i'm quite proud of it. I learned a ton throughout the process, and definitely gained skills I can apply to similar projects in the future. This costume was made entirely by me, (aside from the shoes, socks, and rings) including the foundation garments. There are over fourteen homemade pieces worn for this project. Thousands of beads, over a hundred eyelets, and more than twenty yards of fabric went into this costume. Not to mention the hours of time! The whole thing took me four months of on and off work. Many more details on the process can be found HERE: https://doxiequeen1.wordpress.com/orange-tudor-ensemble/ If you are interested in seeing more of my work or contacting me, I'll leave links to my various sites below! Tudor Fashion Show at Trinity Apse Kirk in Edinburgh

08:48
http://tudortalkandcatwalk.com/ Julia Renaissance Costumes presents highlights of their exciting and dynamic TUDOR FASHION SHOW which was part of the Edinburgh Festival of Museums. These beautiful theatrical costumes are not re-enactment costumes - they have however been inspired by outfits worn during the 16th Century. They have been created by Julia Soares-McCormick (BA Hons Theatre). An introductory talk was followed by models appearing in eight fabulous historical costumes. Each outfit was accompanied by beautiful period music and a talk about its design and construction. Included were -- a doublet and breeches for King James VI, a Beautiful Peacock Blue Silk 'Mary Queen of Scots' Gown , a Royal Blue Silk 'Anne Boleyn' Gown, an Orange Silk Tudor Masquerade Costume, a Pink Silk French Dress, a Gold Silk Gown designed for Elizabeth I, Henry VIII dressed in full regalia and a Robe and Dress inspired by the outfit worn by Mary Queen of Scots for her execution at Fotheringay. Trailer: Dressing a Renaissance Queen

01:01
http://costumetrek.com/ Dressing a Renaissance Queen is a short documentary film about the unusual circumstances surrounding the wedding of the future Queen Marie de Medici. The film takes you through the various stages of her dressing process detailing the dress itself and its relation to fashion of the time, along with facts surrounding her proxy wedding to King Henry the IV of France in 1600. The culmination of over a year's work, this labor of love is our pride and joy. The dress used in the video was researched and designed by professional costume designer Nola Yergen. Please peruse our “About Us” section to learn more about her. Currently we cannot show the video in its entirety as it is being submitted to various film festivals. It has been accepted into the Lady Filmmakers Festival in Beverly Hills, CA and will be shown during the event on the weekend of Sep. 28-30th, 2018. Subscribe and ring the bell to stay informed about the release for the full length video!
