How to Sew a Bowl Cozy with Crafty Gemini

13:13
Welcome to Day 11 of 12 Days of Last Minute DIY Gifts! I have received hundreds of requests for a soup bowl cozy tutorial. So, here it is! This bowl cozy features 9" x 9" square pieces of fabric and round edges for a look I prefer. These bowl cozies can be used pretty much every time you are eating something in a bowl whether it be hot or cold. The fabric and batting layers will keep the heat or cold away from your hands so you can comfortably hold your bowl and continue eating. Note: If you plan to put your bowl cozy in the microwave to reheat soup or something similar please make sure your fabrics, batting and thread are all 100% cotton as synthetic fibers can melt at high temps. Feel free to change up the dimensions and make some different sized bowl cozies! Read the blog post here: http://wp.me/p5qpHg-6cM Let me know what you think about this tutorial in the comments below! How to Make an Infinity Scarf- DIY Sewing Tutorial

07:49
SUBSCRIBE HERE: http://full.sc/LmYEYg Infinity scarf tutorial. In this video tutorial I walk you through step-by-step how to sew up your own DIY infinity scarf. You only need a few supplies to make one: sewing machine, fabric, pins, thread, scissors, a hand sewing needle and a measuring tape. This is a great beginner sewing project that will make a great gift for yourself or anyone else in your life- man, woman or child! Play around with the length and width of the fabric you start with to make exactly the scarf you want. In this video I use a piece pf stretch knit fabric that measures 24" x ~54" (width of fabric). The easiest way to start this scarf is to purchase about 2/3 yard (or 24") of a fabric that measures at least 54" on the width of the fabric. This will allow you to conserve fabric and use the entire piece without having any smaller scraps left over. If you use this method and purchase a full yard of fabric you will have enough to make 2 identical scarves. If you enjoyed this video tutorial give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends and family! I use this Singer 151 dress form in the video: http://amzn.to/QpzERj There is also a Singer 150 dress form for smaller sizes: http://amzn.to/Oi2rKJ When you make your own infinity scarf remember to snap a picture and upload it to my Facebook page so we can see your finished project! http://www.facebook.com/CraftyGemini You can find me at: Crafty Gemini mobile app: available for FREE in Android market and iPhone App store Online Shop: http://www.craftygemini.bigcartel.com Website/Blog: http://www.craftygemini.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CraftyGemini Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/CraftyGemini

Fleece Ear Warmers- DIY Sewing Tutorial

04:40
In this video I teach you how to make fleece ear warmers with a bow embellisment. This is a very easy project to make and would be a great beginner project. It's also inexpensive to make and would be great for using up fleece scraps. It acts as both a pair of ear warmers and a headband for those chilly days when you don't feel like doing your hair. Feel free to change up the dimensions depending on who you are making this project for. Great for kids and even guys! Because the fleece fabric stretches in both directions you can make it a little smaller and it will still reach if you tug on it. For this tutorial you will need the following supplies: • Fleece (You can buy it in diff colors and prints here: http://amzn.to/1mut1z6 ) • Sewing Machine • Coordinating thread • Fabric marking device (I used this tailor's chalk: http://amzn.to/1ify46n) • Rotary cutter + mat • Ruler • Button (I keep a bin of craft buttons like this one: http://amzn.to/1bAFcpP) • Hand sewing needle • Embroidery floss (I used this kind: http://amzn.to/1e6EQnD) • 90/14 sewing machine needle (I prefer these needles: http://amzn.to/1dN1IMz) Thanks for watching! How to Build a Raised Garden Bed for Under $15!

08:39
Gardening season is in full swing and I'm trying out some raised garden beds on the farm thus year to improve our water drainage issues. We've been getting a lot of rain and or clay soil is getting really compacted and takes forever to drain. So raised garden beds it is! I've made four already and it's such a quick and easy project that I decided to make a video tutorial and share it with you in hopes of giving you some inspiration to try your hand at growing some food this year! There are a lot of videos and blog posts on inexpensive ways to build your own garden beds but many of them were not very inexpensive solutions in my eyes. I was able to make mine for very little money so I'm sharing what I did in this video with you. Before using any power tools please practice safety precautions to ensure proper and safe use of all tools and supplies. Read and follow manufacturer's instructions for the tools and supplies you are using. Use eye and hand protection if the project requires it and of course, have fun! Supplies you'll need: • Two 2x8x8 foot boards of untreated wood- I used pine but if you can get a good deal on some cedar or redwood then that would be better since they are both naturally rot resistant and should last longer. • 4 wooden chunks of a 2x4 cut to the width of the board you are using. In my case it was 7 3/8". • about 20 outdoor/exterior wood screws at 2.5" or longer. • Cordless drill with predrilling/countersinking bits This 4 foot x 4 foot raised bed cost me just under $15 and is a great way to start growing food, herbs or even just flowers. This is the size suggested in the Square Foot Gardening method. Give it a try! Thanks for watching! Check out what I use as the foundation for the ironing board... if you have small children chances are you probably have one in your house already. This is the perfect project for crafty beginners or quilters who need an ironing board that can travel with them to classes, crops, workshops, sew-ins, etc. Also, consider making one of these mini ironing boards for a young person. How to Square up a Quilt

06:09
SUBSCRIBE HERE: http://full.sc/LmYEYg In this video I show you how a not so straight quilt can be squared up easily to lay flat, and have perfect 90-degree corners. This video is part of my Video Quilt Along series. To view the entire series list of videos click here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLABBAA89EA1D18609&feature=mh_lolz The sample quilt in this video was either my 3rd or 4th quilt I ever made and it's a little wonky. No biggie! I still square it up nicely to get it ready for binding. The key is to add an outside border to your quilt wider than what you'd like it to finish at so you can trim away some of the excess in the squaring up process. No one will ever know you meant to have a wider border than what you end up with and it will be square. To square up your quilt I recommend using two different rulers- a square one and a narrow but longer ruler to help you trim down the longer sides of your quilt. The rulers I like to use and the ones I used in the video are: Omnigrid Quilter's Square 9.5" x 9.5": http://amzn.to/LgDVC6 Omnigrid Quilter's Square 12.5" x 12.5": http://amzn.to/JOUSss Omnigrid Quilter's Ruler 4" x 14": http://amzn.to/KqRmWE You can find me at: Crafty Gemini mobile app: available for FREE in Android market and iPhone App store Online Shop: http://www.craftygemini.bigcartel.com Website/Blog: http://www.craftygemini.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CraftyGemini Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/CraftyGemini Voicemail for tutorial suggestions: 73-CRAFTY-73 / (732)723-8973 Got extra crafting supplies? How to Use Pellon's EZ-Steam® II: Tutorial & Ideas

05:57
Link to buy EZ-Steam II products: http://amzn.to/12r4DbF In this video I teach you how to use Pellon's new & improved EZ-Steam II. After playing around with the product I discovered I could do some pretty cool stuff with it and not just appliques. It also comes in several different options- by the yard (12" and 20" widths), in packs of five sheets at 9" x 12" and also in tape- 1/2" and 1/2" wide. There are two versions- the regular one (EZ-Steam II) I demo in this video and the "Lite" version which is more lightweight and doesn't add quite as much hand to the fabric once it's fused into place. Whether you sew clothes, make quilts or just like to dabble in sewing small projects I think you will find some great uses for this product. How To Make Flour Tortillas- Easy Recipe

02:59
In this video tutorial I show you how to make authentic mexican flour tortillas. This recipe uses lard (pork fat). Lard is a kitchen staple in my house and I use it in a few different applications- cooking, baking and even soapmaking. Contrary to popular belief, lard is actually healthy and good for you! It is a very rich source of Vitamin D (a necessary fat-soluble vitamin) which is essential for all kinds of things like boosting your immune system, promoting strong teeth & bones, hormone balance, cancer prevention, etc. Humans have been consuming lard for thousands of years and it is a natural and sustainable source of a vitamin many of us are deficient in. It is estimated that 1 tablespoon of lard contains 1000 IU of Vitamin D! So, yes, we eat lard in my home. •• Cast iron skillet I use: http://amzn.to/NWAYPA •• Marble rolling pin: http://amzn.to/16Ecy1I I suggest you do some more research on health benefits of animal fats like lard from pastured pigs. Here are a few short articles with some info to get you started: • Top 3 reasons why you should be eating lard: http://www.weedemandreap.com/2013/02/the-top-3-reasons-why-you-should-be-eating-lard.html • Why you need to eat more lard: http://www.rodale.com/research-feed/healthy-cooking-oil Thanks for watching! French Seam or Serger: How to finish garments

05:17
In this sewing video tutorial I briefly cover what a serger is and how a serger works. A serger is used to professionally finish the inside seams of garments and other sewing crafts. Since sergers can be pricey and most beginners only have a sewing machine, I also show you how you can also finish your garments and other sewing projects without having to buy a serger. The technique I show in this video is called a french seam and can be done with any standard home sewing machine. The french seam is a great solution when you need to finish any seam or especially when you are working with a fabric that tends to fray a lot.

How to Make Laundry Detergent- DIY Tutorial- ONLY 3 INGREDIENTS!

03:37
I've been making my own laundry detergent for years and this is one of my favorite and easiest recipes. If you are looking for a way to save some money or a more natural alternative to the chemical-laden conventional laundry detergents on the market give this recipe a try! Note: This recipe is for the powder/dry version of the detergent which is what I prefer to use over liquid detergent. I have used it in two houses one with soft water and another with hard water and did not have problems with it in either location. You don't need to use much of it all and one batch will usually last us about 3-4 months! Watch the full video for info on where to find the 3 ingredients you'll need to make it. If you give the recipe a try leave me a comment and let me know in the description box below how it worked out for you. There are a million different variations to laundry detergent recipes out there so do some research and try several out until you find the one that works for you! You can also use this recipe in conjunction with your oxygen base cleaner of choice (store-brand oxygen cleaner or Oxiclean, something like that, etc) to give your detergent a brightening boost. I also add a few drops of essential oils to give the it a refreshing scent- my favorite to use is lavender essential oil. I hope you enjoy this DIY tutorial on how to make your own laundry detergent! In this video I teach you how to take the measurements needed and translate them onto fabric to create a cute cover for your machine. This is a great beginner project and requires only a few materials to create! All you need is the fabric of your choice, fusible fleece (or batting/felt) and a coordinating thread. Fabric used in this tutorial is from the Jay McCarroll Habitat line for FreeSpirit: http://freespiritfabric.com/core-pages/gallery.php?gal_id=359 Supplies: fabric of your choice- can be solid or pieced Pellon Fusible Fleece (or batting/felt) rulers rotary cutter +mat pins sewing machine coordinating thread iron Measuring/ cutting requirements: Measure the length, width and height of your sewing machine and write those numbers down. If the measurement is close to the next inch measurement up, go ahead and round it up. This will help you account for your seam allowance. 1. Take your length measurement and add 1". 2. Then calculate your height + width + height measurement. In other words, the height measurement x 2 + width. The measurements you end up with in steps 1 & 2 are the length and width measurements of the large fabric piece you need to cut for your cover. Then you will need 2 side panel pieces that measure height x width of your machine. Also cut 3 corresponding pieces of Pellon Fusible Fleece to match your fabric pieces.
