Calhoun County Loses Track Vehicle

00:49
In accordance with President Obama’s order the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office tracked vehicles will be taken from our custody on November the 18th at 9 a.m. Our tracked armor vehicles were obtained free of charge from the 10-33 program after the Sheriff’s Office and Anniston Police were involved in an active shooter situation on Elizabeth Street, Anniston, Alabama in early January 2001. Three Anniston Police Officers were shot by a mentally ill person, and the officers had no protection available to extract the wounded. Since that shooting the vehicle have only been used a handful of times for other situations that involved an active shooter. The majority of the vehicles uses were for outreach programs. The tanks were regularly requested for festivals and parades. The Sheriff’s Office used the vehicles as talking points at the festivals and regularly allowed children to play and ride on the vehicles. The absence of these vehicles pose a serious threat to law enforcement and citizens if we were to face another active shooter incident. The tracked vehicles are not armed with any weapons just an armor that protects the occupants inside.
