This is a MapleSim model of the Pendulum Wave experiment found at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVkdfJ9PkRQ The real pendulums have monotonically increasing lengths, designed to give each specific periods; the longest swings at 51 oscillations per minute, with the shortest at 65 oscillations per minute. Given that the real pendulums start swinging at a relatively shallow angle, their periods do not vary significantly with their initial angle; hence their periods are known to a reasonable degree of accuracy and can be accurately modeled in MapleSim. You see the same patterns and harmonics in both the real experiment and the model. About 30s into the animation, half the pendulums are at either side of the swing, with a full cycle of the patterns taking one minute. We will derive Pontryagin’s maximum principle. The only prerequisite is familiarity with Lagrange multipliers. To solve optimality conditions in real time, the continuation GMRES method for nonlinear MPC will be introduced. This method has been implemented in a Maple application by Cybernet, Japan, available in the Application Center. We will review this worksheet, which includes automatic code generation for NMPC controllers. The example problem in this worksheet is to control the position and orientation of a hovercraft. You can easily change the definition of the system in the worksheet and generate a MPC controller for your application.

Solving Inverse Kinematic Problems: Tracking-Radar Motion Control

In this video, MapleSim is used to solve the inverse kinematics problem of keeping an aircraft's radar gimbal pointed at a stationary target as the aircraft moves. MapleSim provides access to the model equations, automatic generation of the kinematic constraints, and a symbolic solution to the kinematic equations, which is then incorporated into a custom component to drive the angles of the radar gimbal frame. These same techniques can be applied to other inverse kinematic problems.

In this webinar you will learn how to define a PDE as a process in Maple's symbolic environment and solve it using different techniques, namely finite difference method, collocation method, and Galerkin's technique. This presentation will also demonstrate, through the use of examples and case studies, the advanced symbolic mathematics techniques for several technical problems including heat transfer and high-fidelity battery design. A Design Example in MapleSim: Controlling a Robot using Feedback Linearization

This webinar shows how to design a path following controller for a Kuka robot arm. First, the kinematic and dynamic equations are extracted from a MapleSim model. Then, Maple’s symbolic engine creates a feedback linearization controller from the model’s equations. Finally, a custom MapleSim component is created from the controller equations. The result is a sophisticated controller that can accurately track curved paths, where traditional PID-based controllers suffer from dynamic tracking errors.
