This Is Why Tech People Choose To Work in Amsterdam

03:10
Amsterdam is a haven for developers, engineers, coders, data scientists - basically everyone who speaks the language of TECH. Don't believe us? We've got proof. Just check out what the developers from Adyen, BTC.com, Dimebox, Effectory, Elsevier, Flow Traders, Mollie Payments, Optiver, Picnic and Takeaway.com think about working and living in Amsterdam - Europe's #1 Tech Hub! Special thanks to our official ambassador, Siraj Raval - Youtuber, author, data scientist, educator and leader of the fastest growing AI community in the world - who ALSO chose Amsterdam and relocated here from the USA. Check out his Youtube channel and get blown away: https://buff.ly/2D8PKgp Thanks to Amsterdam’s world-class Tech Ecosystem, tech professionals feel right at home. The city is home to some of the world’s biggest tech giants (Netflix, Microsoft and Google) and most exciting home-grown scale-ups (Adyen, Takeaway.com and Picnic), not to mention the stellar list of tech events in the city, which boasts tech workshops, meet-ups, talks and hackathons, and hosts some of the globe’s biggest and best tech conferences. Thanks to the city’s renowned work-life balance and connectivity, making time for these kinds of things is a breeze; in fact, many of the city’s companies organize these events themselves, and given the close-knit nature of Amsterdam’s tech and startup scene, you’re never too far away from another techie. But let’s not forget about the top-notch cultural agenda; the city – and its surrounding area – is packed full of great festivals, concerts, nights-out, sports events and exhibitions to inspire and amaze. Want to be a part of it? Of course you do! We're back at it again with a super sweet deal! Check out www.project.amsterdam and apply!

B. Building Business - Coworking Space and more - Amsterdam

02:07
The distinctive black cube on the Johan Huizingalaan (visible from the A4 and A10 ringways) was originally built as IBM headquarters. The adjacent hall served as a typewriter factory. After IBM left its premises, several developers prepared large-scale area development with offices as its main focus. The plan was to build an “extension of the Zuidas” (major business district along the ringway A10) in this spot. These plans were never realized and the area (The Riekerpolder) became one of the prime examples of a mono-functional office district like so many others that have emerged in recent years in the Netherlands. An unattractive proposition as it turned out and “For Rent” signs disfigured many offices in this area, without any tangible result. The current owner of the complex, in partnership with developer COD, decided to take action. Following a renovation, the hall was leased to PostNL, which generated some income. The office building, with her excesses – large floors, accessibility and robustness – afforded an opportunity to do things differently.

Amsterdam Startup In Residence

00:54
Startup in Residence is an innovative collaboration between the City of Amsterdam and startups. The project invites Dutch and international startups to devise innovative solutions to social issues related to four themes: Urban Mobility, Vibrant City, Circular Economy and Healthy City. The second Startup in Residence will run from November 2016. The startups will be offered an intensive (‘accelerator’) training programme, as well as the support of professional coaches or mentors. The startups will also be provided with working space and have access to the municipality’s network. If solutions prove successful, the City of Amsterdam will invest in them as a launching customer and thereby significantly kick-start the startup’s career. The City of Amsterdam seeks to work with (starting) businesses in a transparent manner to translate good ideas into solutions to social issues. Startup in Residence is an initiative of StartupAmsterdam and the Chief Technology Office (CTO) of the City of Amsterdam, modelled on a similar programme in San Francisco.
