Lake Mary, Orlando & East Orlando Marriage Counselor discusses Facebook Ruins Relationships - Divorce | Jada Jackson Collins, MS, MA, NCC | Fox 35 Family Therapist Jada provides marriage counseling therapy for couples in Lake Mary, Southwest and East Orlando. A third of America's divorces implicates Facebook as the culprit of destruction. According to an article posted by New York Daily News, "U.S. divorce attorneys agree that Facebook is increasingly becoming a factor in marriage crack-ups. K. Jason and Kelly Krafsky, authors of the book 'Facebook and Your Marriage' warn about how the site can toss a monkey wrench in an otherwise happy marriage. The couple suggests that people usually become inhibited and bolder as they communicate from behind the computer screen. To communicate with boldness in person or face-to-face is a terrifying feat. However, with the power of social networking, people are given a platform to express their inner most thoughts without direct consequences. How Facecrack ruins relationships. 3 Things to know about Swinging & Hooking Up | Orlando Marriage Therapist Tips Video

WATCH More FREE Best Sex Video Tips @ http://www.totallifecounseling.com/best-sex Orlando Marriage Therapist | 3 Things to know about Swinging & Hooking Up | Therapist Tips | Daily Buzz TV Video | Our Orlando FL Based Relationship Marriage Experts are interviewed by the media because of our Expertise as Relationship Therapists. Total Life Counseling Center has offices conveniently located in Lake Mary, Winter Park, Southwest Orlando, East Orlando, & Clermont Florida. Have you and your partner considered the swinging lifestyle? Are you curious or want to spice up your sexual life? You may want to stop and consider these three things before you swing with other couples! 1) EMOTIONAL RISKS - There is a strong possibility that you or your spouse can start to develop feelings for a swinging partner. Will you then consider polyamory? That is the practice of having more than one loving relationship at the same time, with the full knowledge and consent of all parties involved. Usually in the swinging lifestyle also involves becoming friends with your partners. This opens the door for bonding to occur which can easily lead to emotional attachment. 2) JEALOUSY - What if you or your partner gets jealous? Many partners that participate in the swinging lifestyle have admitted to this at least once during their activities. You entered into the lifestyle wanting to have fun, what happens when it is no longer fun? It is important for you to know that jealousy is very common in the swinging lifestyle, so it is not a matter of IF someone will get jealous but WHEN they will get jealous. 3) DIVORCE OR BREAK UP - What happens when one partner wants to stop the sexual activity and the other wants to still engage? It is not that easy to just stop such activities just because the other wants to call it quits. Relationships are already under stress and strain without adding other people to the equation. Swinging will not solve any satisfaction in your relationship. In fact, chances are pretty high that it will make it worse in the long run. There are other risks like STDs and breaking the rules within the rules. Is it really worth it? You want to consider what are our goals for our relationship and how can we accomplish it without all the risks? Besides individuals can rarely divorce sex from relationship in the long-term. Whether we want to admit to it or not, when we have sex it establishes an emotional bond that is very difficult to ignore. When we add other multiple partners, it almost always leads to confusion and hurt feelings. Winter Park & East Orlando Based Marriage Expert Tips to Survive Infidelity in Your Marriage | Video

03:42
Winter Park & East Orlando Marriage Therapy Tips to Survive Infidelity in Your Marriage | Fox 35 Video Our Orlando Based Marriage Expert Counselors and Therapists at Total Life Counseling Center has offices in Lake Mary, Winter Park, East Orlando, Southwest Orlando and Clermont Florida. From the Oval Office to Hollywood homes. infidelities make headlines around the world. According to the Myth of Monogamy by Peggy Vaughan, 60 % of husbands and 40 % of wives will have an adulterous affair and 65% of those marriages will end in divorce. Infidelity can destroy even the strongest relationships. The betrayed partner is left with feelings of shame, guilt, and anger. These feelings can be extremely difficult to overcome, however, it is possible to emerge as a stronger couple with the support of family, friends, a therapist, and each other. There are many reasons why someone has an affair. It can range from poor judgment and a lack of impulse control at the office with a co-worker to a more common search for an emotional connection. Whatever the reason the effect is devastation to the relationship. "Nothing rocks a person's sense of self, trust, and marriage more than infidelity," says Michelle Weiner-Davis, author of The Sex-Starved Marriage. "Infidelity leaves people questioning their sanity, as well as everything they believe to be true about their spouse, and about the viability of their marriage. Infidelity is crippling." Consider these 5 Reasons Why You Can Survive Infidelity: 1. RAW HONESTY. After all cards are on the table, the couple has an opportunity to create a new pathway to healing and growth. Honesty is about more than just not lying; it is also about not withholding relevant information. 2. EMOTIONAL NEEDS. The needs of each individual can now be truly discovered, and these needs will need to be met on a daily basis to keep the couple walking on the pathway to healing and growth. Orlando Sexual Abuse Counselor | Jaycee Dugard | 3 Questions Answered - WESH 2 NBC News

Orlando Sexual Abuse Counselor | Jaycee Dugard: Three Questions Answered - WESH 2 NBC News Video Our Orlando FL Based Sexual Abuse Counselors are interviewed by the media because of our Expertise as Abuse Therapists. Total Life Counseling Center has offices conveniently located in Lake Mary, Winter Park, Southwest Orlando, East Orlando, & Clermont Florida. This past week the breaking news headline was: Jaycee Dugard Discovered After 18 Years. This was a shock not only to anyone who heard the story, but also to her family. In the Jaycee Dugard case, as well as with Elizabeth Smart and Shawn Hornbeck cases, there are three common questions that people ask: 1) How does a person reunite with their family? One of the main things that has to be considered before starting the process of reuniting is that it needs to take place over a period of time and it needs to be done with sensitivitymeaning that she is no longer the 11 year old girl that her parents last knew her to be. There is an entire part of her life that she may not want to talk about for a long time. She also now has two daughters of her own, who are very limited in what they know. Therefore, reuniting should be as stress- free and low-key as possible. Jaycee and her daughters will need to be allowed to process the shock with taking in this new reality. 2) Why does a kidnapped person not try to escape? There are a variety of reasons why a person does not try to escape their captor. One main reason is what we call learned helplessness. We can only speculate in the Jaycee Dugard case, but in research studies whether the threat is actual or perceived when the person thinks of escaping, they may suffer from the negative effect. Therefore, the feelings of having no control can take over a persons senses and that feeling of powerlessness kicks in a survival response. In the research, we also look at something called traumatic bonding. What this means is the kidnapped victim potentially can develop an emotional response that is related to his or her powerlessness in a life-threatening situation. This can explain why the individual may seem immobilized and unable or unwilling to attempt an escape. Orland Marriage Family Therapist | 5 Marriage Tips with Children | Daily Buzz Counselor Video Tips Our Orlando FL Based Marriage Counselors are interviewed by the media because of our Expertise as Relationship Therapists. Total Life Counseling Center has offices conveniently located in Lake Mary, Winter Park, Southwest Orlando, East Orlando, & Clermont Florida. Have you asked yourself the following questions: What is a healthy balance between couple time, kid time, and family time? Is it better to be kid focused or couple focused? Does it seem impossible to create a balance, to continue to build a strong marriage, while nurturing your kids? Below you will find five things that will help you build your strong and happy family. 1) Fight Respectfully: It is normal to have disagreements in a marriage. Many times these disagreements can present themselves while the children are around. This is a good opportunity to demonstrate to our kids what conflict resolution skills look like in a healthy and respectful manner. When couples belittle each other and tear each other down in front of the kids, we demonstrate to them that we do not respect each other. They are more likely to mimic that same behavior towards you when they are in disagreement with you. 2) Remember the fun times: Usually after the kids enter into the dynamics, couples can easily get into a rut that can feel like a routine. Therefore, it is important that couples take time to remember what they did for fun before the kids arrived. They can recreate those moments for an ongoing connection with each other. 3) Share Responsibility: It is important that couples agree to share responsibility in the household duties. For example, you can take turns each night putting the kids to bed while the other one cleans up the kitchen. This will lessen the chance of one spouse getting resentful because they feel like they do a lot around the house and may not feel appreciated. It will also demonstrate to your kids what teamwork looks like at home. You can also have the kids share in this so they can be part of the team while learning responsibility. Orlando Based Trauma PTSD Counselors | 4 Warning Signs to Prevent Workplace Violence Fox 35 | Our Orlando Based Trauma Expert Counselors and Therapists at Total Life Counseling Center has offices conveniently located in Lake Mary, Winter Park, East Orlando, Southwest Orlando and Clermont Florida. This week our country and specifically, many families have experienced tragedies as a result of workplace violence that will change their lives forever. Major Nidal Malik Hasan is alleged to have murdered 13 fellow military personnel and wounded 30 more at Fort Hood Thursday. There are reports that red flags were apparent in Major Nidal Hasans behavior and performance. The day after the Fort Hood massacres, a man named Jason Rodriquez shot and killed a co-worker and wounded five others at an engineering firm in Orlando, Florida. The reoccurring questions that are being asked is if he just snapped or were there warning signs? In most workplace violence, there are common signs preceding the horrific events. Below are four common warning signs that are often overlooked: 1. Overreaction to criticism and resistant to changes in procedures. 2. Anger that is directed at co-workers and/or the company, which seems stronger or more intense than the situation, seems to call for. 3. Obsession about co-workers or company policies. This can also include repeated violations of company policies. 4. Bullying others to do things a certain way or possible threats to supervisors directly or indirectly. These signs can be very subtle or very obvious to those around the individual. In many post-incident investigations, employees and co-workers often stated that they observed one or more of these symptoms but considered them insignificant or just "weird" behavior. Report these signs to your human resources department or employer. If you struggle with any of these symptoms or know any one that does, there are many resources available to assist you or your company in preventing workplace violence. Total Life Counseling offers a monthly Eight-hour Anger Management Workshop to the community. Individuals learn how to manage their own emotions along with how to deal with difficult or disgruntled individuals in their personal or work life. Frustrated with finding a good counselor? Parenting Tips ODD Oppositional Difficult Children or Teens | Video Orlando Counselor Jim West

04:57
Parenting ODD Oppositional Defiant Difficult Children or Teens: 4 "T's" to Avoid | Fox 35 Video - Watch more FREE tips at http://www.totallifecounseling.com/defiance Our Orlando FL or Online Based Child Teen Counselors are interviewed by the media because of our Expertise as Family Therapists. Total Life Counseling Center has offices conveniently located in Lake Mary, Winter Park, Southwest Orlando, East Orlando, & Clermont Florida. Learn the 4 "T's" to Avoid when Dealing with Oppositional Children or Teens: We can discuss "the No Nos with Oppositional students" 1. Triggers - Saying No before Validating the Childs Wants or Feelings 2. Threats - These are perceived by the Oppositional Child as a Challenge and the one with the most energy wins. 3. Temporary Insanity - Sentencing the child during intense emotion will escalate the child. 4. Tone - If you escalate your tone and lose your cool then the child feels they win emotionally because they made you join them in their misery. "If you say that one more time I am going to slap you" and as this mother was telling me the story, I immediately knew the outcome as she recalls the story over the weekend in a restaurant. Whenever a threat is made between a parent and Oppositional student it's like issuing a challenge and the one with the most energy wins. The student wins in their own mind if they can provoke the parent to jump into the ring with them. In a period of temporary insanity, the student will hunker down and go for the jugular in an attempt to win emotionally and the parent will pull rank by adding more restrictions and consequences. An emotional win for the student is when they can get the parent to a point of temporary insanity. Parent: "Okay you have one week, do you want to go for two." Student: "Fine I don't care if you ground me for a month." Parent: "You got it!" Now here is a great example of temporary insanity; there is a student grounded in the house with the parent for a month. So who really has the greatest punishment . . . the parent! The situation gets worse when the parents realize they were temporarily insane when they made this consequence and may give in and reduce the sentence to 1 week or 2 weeks. The student will also continue to annoy and pester the parent and wear them down emotionally during this time to get a reduced sentence. So when the parent reduces the time, in the mind of the student they "win again" as they were able to get the sentence reduced. By the way, Temporary Insanity is typically reached when we become so angry that emotion drives our conversation and thoughts and we can not think logically. Typically when someone is Angry or Temporarily Insane it is a great idea to allow each other to walk away and revisit the conflict when both parties have had time to cool down and think about their part in the conflict. Other examples of Temporary Insanity or Oppositional No No's are statements that we may not be able to enforce: Parent: "Don't even think about it," "You will do it," "You will not do it," or "Put it away Now!" According to Russell Barkely, M.D., a leading expert on Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), it's not a genetic disorder. ODD is often a product of parents that are on opposite sides of the page. For instance, a passive parent and authoritarian parent that do not agree on discipline and the student will put a strain on the marriage and household by playing the parents against each other. Another parent scenario that encourages ODD behavior is an absent or uninvolved parent and authoritarian parent. Some parents will avoid the conflict and disengage again giving a message to the student they have won emotionally by wearing a parent down. Then the student thinks they are in control. Total Life Counseling Center has offices conveniently located in Lake Mary, Winter Park, Southwest Orlando, East Orlando, & Clermont Florida. Jon & Kate made the BIG Announcement on their reality show Jon & Kate Plus Eight that they will be separating and that it was what was best for the kids. Marriages of the children of divorce have a much higher rate of divorce than the marriage of children from intact families. A major reason for this is that parents model marital commitment or permanence for their kids. Lets look at three lessons we can learn from the Jon & Kate story with the potential of avoiding this in your family. 1) It is important to balance personal needs with the needs of children. There is no denying that attempting to meet the needs of sextuplets and twins and still have time for the couple was difficult. Often times when this pattern is developed it can lead the couple down a path of a child-centered relationship, which can drive any couple apart emotionally. Orlando Marriage Counseling | What Women Want | The Perfect Man List | Video

04:03
Orlando Marriage Counselor Experts | What Women Want | The Perfect Man List! | Daily Buzz Video. Total Life Counseling Center's Orlando Based Marriage Expert Therapists have offices in Lake Mary, East Orlando, Winter Park, Southwest Orlando, & Clermont Florida Should women make lists in determining her perfect man? Absolutely! She is already feeling inside herself certain traits, values and characteristics that she desires in her man so why not make a list of them. This will help in times that she may feel desperate to not "settle" or compromise what she is looking for. Of course, you want to be careful not to make the list so extensive that no one can measure up to it. Remember, there is no "perfect" man out there like Hollywood wants us to believe so you want to have standards and desires, but remember to be careful not to set yourself up for failure in your future relationship by having expectations that no one can meet. If so, what should be on the list? The list should have certain desires and standards that are absolutes that you definitely want in your future man (desires children, financially independent, sense of humor, spiritual beliefs, etc.) Then include things that would be nice to have like hobbies, food interests, music but aren't deal breakers. How close should she follow the list? I think it is important to keep a balance between holding to your absolutes or those things that are non-negotiable and the things that would just be fun to have in a partner. You certainly don't want to compromise but also don't want to put your list up there with brushing your teeth each morning then 5 years later you find that no one can fit your list because of how rigid it was. You may make some adjustments along the way and you may find yourself changing over time. Having someone that has some differences can be fun so you each bring something fresh to the relationship. You want enough similarities to have intimacy but enough differences to be necessary. Key thought: It is important to be those things that you desire in someone else. If you want someone you can trust, you can be vulnerable with, that you can laugh with, cry with and that is sensitive to your heart, make sure you are demonstrating those things and willing to give them yourself. You will attract what you are so if you desire compassion, be compassionate. Orlando Family Counselor Therapist Expert Jim West | Penn State Study Dads Effect on Teen Self Esteem Fox 35 Video Penn State University study reports the effect fathers have on their sons and daughters! "I don't understand why my daughter is so depressed? "Why is my son hanging out with negative influences?" "Why does my daughter date idiots?" "Why does my son have such low self esteem?" If you hear yourself or other parents asking these questions it might be the "dad effect" Six Benefits of hangin' with dad: 1. Boys learn social skills | Just hanging out with their dad in groups and observing his interactions helps develop communication skills and confidence. 2. Dad's raise the bar | Daughters observe qualities in their father that are qualities she looks for in her boyfriend. Dad's plan ahead date nights with their daughters so they can anticipate the time with dad. She can shop with mom for a dress or outfit periodically as well. Dad can get the door to the restaurant or the car, take her by the arm, get her chair and treat her like a lady to raise the bar so hi the "idiot boyfriends" won't be able to reach it! 3. Why bother asking someone to dinner or to the movies when you can meet at a party, down a few drinks and go hook up for the night? In my freshman year of college, I can remember going down the hall to the shared bathroom among the dorm rooms and seeing some of the girls hung-over around the sinks. I caught my roommates eye and asked her what happened last night with that guy she had met at the party? She said, We had fun together with no strings attached if you know what I mean. It was great! Since those days, very little has changed in the female world of sexual freedom, it has only evolved into what we now call hooking up. Hooking up can include all of the bases, and the ambiguity is intentional. Modest types can imply that less happened than did, and braggarts can hint at hitting a home run. How to Respond to Teasing and Roll With It | Bullying Video Tips Orlando Bully Expert Jim West interviewed by Fox 35 News. Our Orlando FL Based Child Teen Counselors are interviewed by the media because of our Expertise as Family Therapists. Total Life Counseling Center has offices conveniently located in Lake Mary, Winter Park, Southwest Orlando, East Orlando, & Clermont Florida. Most of us know if we teach our kids to say something mean back that it can snowball into a fight. What if we could say something back that was neutral and not offensive and funny all at the same time? Responding to Teasing - What do I say when someone calls me a name? Teaching Students to Roll with Conflict "You are an idiot!" "Why are you so weird!" "Your mother sucks!" "You're so stupid & I hate you!" Just a few emotional attacks that students endure at school. Some students react with aggression, some with tears and isolation, and others feel unaccepted and alone. Parents want so much to give their students the skills to deal with these attacks. Students need help to respond without provoking, teasing back or without letting the aggressor see them upset or angry. Teaching students to roll with conflict with confidence and humor can help them defuse tension or hurt feelings, reduce additional teasing and build confidence. For example, if someone says "your an idiot" the victim could say "That's the best thing I heard all day!' Here are some more examples: 1. Youre an Idiot!-Thank you! 2. Freak-Thats the best thing Ive heard all day 3. Stupid-You just made my day Learn more tips at http://stresslessseries.com/product/bullying-tips-for-parents-students-teasing-making-friends/ Frustrated with finding a good counselor? Orlando PTSD Trauma Counselor with 4 Warning Signs & What to Do to Avoid Another Shooting - Jason Lo

Orlando PTSD Trauma Counselor with 4 Warning Signs & What to Do to Avoid Another Shooting - Jason Loughner Fox 35 News | Therapists offices in Lake Mary, East Orlando, Clermont, Winter Park and Southwest Orlando. Jason Loughner's shooting of Gabrielle Giffords, a 9 year old girl, a Federal Judge with his history makes us wonder why people around him did not see the warning signs. So how does someone see the signs? What do we look for in someone that is about to implode? Below relationship experts give us some some tips for us to consider and some ideas on what to do in the future. A Few Warning Signs 1 -- Obsession with anger, violent thoughts 2 -- Paranoid 3 -- Withdrawn personality 4 -- distorted or radical belief system What Can You Do Most states have an involuntary commitment law in the event that someone is considered a danger to themselves or others. The Baker Act is Florida's involuntary treatment law. It can be enforced by judges, law enforcement officials, mental health counselors, and physicians. If you spot someone who you feel might be mentally ill to the point of threatening themselves or others you can call 911 and report them so they can get help. If you call 911 the police will determine if there is a legitimate threat before enforcing the involuntary commitment laws in your state. If there is a legitimate threat, then law enforcement would escort the individual to the local involuntary commitment facility for a mental health evaluation by a professional to determine if they are indeed mentally ill and could be a danger to themselves or others. Once they are evaluated and diagnosed as mentally ill, they will receive treatment and care. When people have deranged thoughts it's often for deranged reasons. The only protection from them -- and for them -- is an improved system of diagnosis and treatment for the mentally ill. Mass killers, though often delusional, are deliberate and determined. They seek revenge against specific individuals, or against society as a whole, in large part regardless of whatever social policies we put in place.
