BEGINNERS LACE SCARF- A Beautifully Simple Lace Stitch.

SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITE: http://thecastingoncouch.com INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/thecastingoncouch FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/TheCastingOnCouch TWITTER: https://twitter.com/youtubeknitter RAVELRY: http://www.ravelry.com/designers/the-casting-on-couch-2 You will be amazed at just how easy this lace stitch is to achieve. It has a one row, four stitch repeat that is quick to learn. Based on The Vintage Lace Scarf Stitch, I decided to do a similar scarf that was much easier to master. It also has the added bonus of being a reversible fabric making it a perfect choice for a scarf. Cast on 52sts using 6mm needles and an Aran weight yarn. To adjust the width of this scarf add or subtract in multiples of 4 sts. Row 1: * K2, yo twice, p2tog, rep * Rep row 1 throughout until your scarf is the right length for you. KNITTING TECHNIQUES - Three Needle Bind Off. Joining shoulder seams together whilst casting off.

02:59
The Three needle bind off creates beautiful seaming and may be used to join shoulder seams and in this case a lace scarf requiring a join in the centre (to enable the scarf to have scalloped edgings on both scarf ends). It is very elastic and nearly invisible! This video, it's content including the You Tube title and description are property of The Casting On Couch. Once you have familiarised yourself with the basics move onto working stripes as part 2, or work my brand new method in the round! Better still why not create Herringbone stripes in the round with beautifully seamless perfect stripes! The possibilities are endless.....Good luck! The scarves featured in this collection are worked lengthways meaning that it is necessary to cast on a large number of sts and work a small number of rows. I recommend creating a tension square and checking your gauge due to the large number of stitches involved. Note- For best results in the Herringbone stitch you will have to increase your needle size from that recommended on the ball band tension up to 15mm (US 19). Materials 10mm (US 15), 80cm (32in) long circular needle to cast on and off with. 15mm (US 19), 80cm (32in) long circular needle. Optional 9mm crochet hook. Embroidery needle 350g or X7 50g balls of Freedom Wool by Twilleys. For similar results look for yarn that uses 10mm (US 15) needles, & check that the ball band tension = 10sts & 14 rows to 10cm (4in). Striped Version - Expect to use appx 150g of each of the 3 colour ways. King Cole, Big Value, Super Chunky in shades 35 and 30 were used in conjunction withTwilleys Freedom Wool in colour 437 for the striped scarf featured in the video. Tension Herringbone Stitch tension using 15mm (US19) needles = 10.9 sts = 10cm(4in). 200sts = 183cm(72in) Finished garment after gentle blocking measures 183cm/72in long and 22cm/8.25in wide.
