Reina del Cid: Don't Think Twice

07:03
Brooking Summer Arts Festival 2013: The Cidizens, Formed in March 2011, are led by 24 year old singer-songwriter Reina del Cid, described by Minneapolis' Secrets of the City as "the way-more-talented-than-you girl next door." Channeling storytelling greats like Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, del Cid serves up heartache, complex romance, and sharp-eyed social commentary with the effortlessness of an artist many decades her senior. Posting her music online during college in 2007, Reina del Cid's honest, unfiltered songs touched millions of listeners on social media sites like YouTube and Facebook, winning her a devoted international following before she teamed up with the Cidizens. With the hard hitting combination of del Cid's powerful lyrics and blues/rock-infused music from the Cidizens, the band's debut full-length album blueprints is well poised to take Minneapolis by storm and win over the hearts of fans all over the globe. www.greenroommusicsource.com/reina-del

American Indian Beadwork

04:18
A visit to the Old Courthouse Museum in Sioux Falls SD. American Indian Beadwork was and is today a major art form in Indian culture. Artistic expression was a central part of everyday tribal life, as Indians decorated themselves, their homes, and their possessions. Some of the artifacts that are on display are a shirt and leggings worn by Chief Spotted Tail, an 1870s war shirt, bandolier bags, purses, and beaded moccasins. Before their contact with Europeans, American Indians made their beads from stones, shells, teeth, animal bones, deer hooves, and seeds. By the late 1700s and early 1800s, Venetian glass beads had become a form of currency between European fur traders and Indian tribes all across North America. Tribes found these beads appealing, colorful, and much easier to use than porcupine quills. The exhibit highlights beadwork from many different North American Indian tribes including Iroquois, Chippewa, Potawatomi, Woodland, Ojibwa, and Lakota. It features both historical and contemporary objects as well as the different techniques the American Indians used in creating their beadwork designs. Crazy Horse Mtn Stone Tools & Artifacts

01:42
Stone tools, arrowheads and artifacts that have been donated to the museums at Crazy Horse Welcome Center. It's been 36 years since the construction of the first wing of the Indian Museum of North America. When Korczak accepted the invitation of Native Americans to carve a mountain memorial to their culture, he determined that it would be a humanitarian project. He wanted Crazy Horse to be much more than "just" a colossal mountain carving. He directed that the Memorial also would tell present and future generations the story of Native Americans by displaying outstanding examples of Indian culture and heritage - both of yesterday and today. The museum has grown with the project. Each year, tribal members and others contribute Native American art and artifacts to enhance the collection and make it more comprehensive and representative of all North American tribes.
