¿Qué son los sacramentales?

01:19

Watch How Bethlehem Olive Wood Gifts are Made

02:59
The modern Christian community of Beit Sahour is the largest Christian village in the Holy Land. It resides in the area where the Shepherds were told by the Angel Gabriel that the Prince of Peace had been born unto the world. It is the place where Arab Christian clans came to settle in the caves and fields to herd their flocks, plant their olive trees, and build their homes out of hand-hewn stone. Over time, many of these families learned the trade of artisan olive wood carving. These wood carvings became the treasured artifacts that Christian travelers acquired to remember their pilgrimages. This olive wood carving skill and tradition has been passed down from father to son for many generations, with each family enacting their own unique techniques, style and signature marks. The Bannoura clan is one of these artisan families with a long history of handcrafting olive wood figurines. Though some of their family has moved to the United States, this tightly knit family keeps their Christian faith and their olive wood artisan traditions. They are proud to be considered part of the living Christian heritage of the Holy Land.

The Origin of the Christmas Tree Tradition

01:34
St. Boniface was an 8th century English monk evangelizing in what is now modern Germany. Upon finding sacrifices to gods happening at the winter solstice around a great tree, he intervened with the pagan cult and cut down the tree. He then instructed the pagans to accept baptism and to use a small fir tree growing nearby to carry on their tradition, but instead by incorporating it into the worship of the Christ-Child, God made man.

The Advent Wreath Tradition

01:02
The Advent wreath is perhaps the most popular Advent tradition for the home. Each part of the Advent wreath symbolizes our spiritual preparation for the birth of the world's Messiah, Jesus Christ, on Christmas day. SHAPE: The circular shape of the Advent wreath symbolizes eternal life. COLOR: the purple Advent candles symbolize our repentance and waiting; the pink Advent candle symbolizes our joy of Christmas coming soon, only one week away. LIGHT: The soft candle light rising from the Advent candles symbolize the coming of Jesus as "The Light of the World" to dispel the darkness of sin. Advent wreaths usually come with directions on how to use them with prayerful devotion, but we recommend a good Advent prayer book to accompany your time with the Lord. Find a selection of Advent wreaths here: http://www.catholiccompany.com/advent-wreaths-c1508/ And our entire Advent gift collection here: http://www.catholiccompany.com/advent-c1504/

The Three Kings Christmas Tradition

01:17
Each year on January 6th, or the 12th day of Christmas, the Church celebrates the Epiphany, or the manifestation of Jesus Christ to the Gentile nations, as symbolized by the visit of the Magi who traveled from the Orient to worship the newborn King of the Jews, as recorded in the Gospels. Today, no nativity scene is complete without the Three Kings, who represent all of us who search to find Jesus Christ. The Nativity Scene Tradition Begun by St. Francis of Assisi

01:09
St. Francis of Assisi had a special devotion to the Child Jesus, and he is credited with creating the first nativity scene on Christmas Eve of the year 1223. It is said that St. Francis was first inspired by this idea after visiting the historical place of Christ’s birth on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. He recreated the scene of Christ’s birth in a special service and Mass he held inside of a cave, inviting both his fellow friars and the townspeople to join in the celebration. Ever since, it has been a tradition for the faithful to display a nativity scene in their homes and churches during the Christmas season.

Catechism of the Seven Sacraments Book Teaser

01:29
Catechism of the Seven Sacraments uses the classic brick toys as a storytelling and educational tool. Join hosts Fulton and Cynthia on a biblical adventure as they journey from creation to salvation and discover the importance of God’s sanctifying grace. Set in a vivid comic-book format with stunning photographs, this book makes profound theological concepts accessible to both the Catholic and the curious, the child and the adult. About the Authors: Kevin and Mary O'Neill and their seven children are the creative minds and dedicated hands behind this book. When Kevin and Mary discovered questionable interpretations in a popular brick-illustrated Bible, they took matters into their own hands and created this book with the help of their children. Using thousands of their own toy building blocks, they constructed and photographed each scene illustrating the Catholic sacraments, while weaving a biblical narrative of salvation history.
