Changing my hair color was a big change for me. I had red hair for years so transitioning to a different color as crazy as it sounds, made me feel a completely different person. I felt as if I took on a new identity when I changed hair colors =)
I guess I can understand why people tend to go for a dramatic or even subtle hair change when something new changes in their life. I actually recently went through some personal changes myself and am thinking about chopping my hair to medium length so I am thinking about cutting off about 10" soon =)
Anyways, that was me babbling, let's go on to the details!
Please keep in mind I am in no way a professional and not claiming to be one. I just want to share my experience and tips that I've learned along the way! The things I share with you are what works for me!
The hair dying process:
-As previously mentioned, I had red hair for YEARS. I started off using an Omar Sharif bubble foam hair dye that DID NOT work on me. It was supposed to make my hair red but it made it a super dark brown you couldn't even tell it was dyed. Basically, it had no effect on my natural black hair other than drying it out =(
- I then used GARNIER FRUCTIS R2. This hairdye is amazing! It turned my super dark black hair to red immediately. No pre-bleaching required. I used this for 6 months.
-Next, I wanted a more vibrant red so I switched to GARNIER FRUCTIS R3. I used this for over a year and absolutely loved it! This is the color that is seen in the photo of me with red hair in the video.
- Then, I used Revlon Medium Ash Brown hairdye and it made my hair practically black.
-I then went to the salon and they dyed a dark brown all over my hair and did blonde highlights throughout my hair.
-Since then, I have not touched up my highlights therefore as you can see, the highlights are mainly midlength down to the ends since they grew out. I only toned the highlights once and every time I touch up my hair, I use the same color for my roots and all over my hair. The hairdye is Loreal Preference Lightest Ash Blonde.
Q: How often do I wash my hair?
A: Once every 2-3 days.
Q: How often do I re-color my hair?
A: Usually after 6-8 weeks but when I'm too lazy or busy, I touch up after 12 weeks or so.
Q: How often do you use toner and what toner do you use?
A: Since I got my blonde highlights (February 2015), I've toned my hair only once using Wella toner in T18. I would tone my hair probably once a month if I had the time! The reason that I use the toner is to maintain the hue of my blonde highlights. It does not really have an effect on my overall color, but I do see less red in my hair every time I wash the toner out. The toner makes my blonde a lot more vibrant and less orange/brassy.
